Tutoring program begins August 28
      The fall semester of the Letcher County After-School Tutoring Program, a one-to-one tutoring program for children with dyslexic characteristics, will begin on August 28 at the First Baptist Church on Madison Avenue in Whitesburg. Blackey wants funds
      If all goes according to plan, the City of Blackey may one day be the home of a new community center, which will be located in the city park. City Clerk Pauline Collins told the Blackey City Council she has spoken with 92nd District State Representative Ancil Smith, who said he would try to get funds for the center placed in the 2008 state budget.

NEW TRUCK
      The Letcher County Fiscal Court recently leased two new Mack trucks through the Kentucky Association of Counties. The vehicles will be able to haul 23 to 27 tons of gravels and blacktop compared to the old county trucks that could only haul five to seven tons.

Line will connect Letcher, Pike water systems
      GROUNDBREAKING - A groundbreaking ceremony for the Mountain Water District- Jenkins Connector Water Project was held August 1 near the Pike County/Letcher County line. Approximately 8,000 feet of 8-inch water main and a booster pumping station will be installed in the Shelby Gap area of Pike County, and will extend to the Letcher County line.

Healthcare workshop is offered by SKCTC
