Latest Kentucky state news from The Associated Press:

As many as 50 groups, businesses to give treats

Organizers of a Halloween "safe night" in the City of Whitesburg say the event will give children a place to collect treats without being exposed to traffic and other dangers.

"They can dress up and go trickor treating with people we know and trust," said Jenkins storekeeper Ernestine Flint.

Flint, who is helping the City of Whitesburg organize the event, said that as many as 50 businesses and organizations are expected to be at Riverside Park in Whitesburg tonight (Wednesday) to hand out treats between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m.

The "Halloween Safe Night Celebration" will be the first one held in Whitesburg. The city is sponsoring the event along with the Riverside Days Festival Committee, of which Flint is a member.
