Latest Kentucky state news from The Associated Press:

Filled boxes needed

Thornton resident Tessa Fugate carried shoeboxes filled with toiletries, small toys and candy into the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg on Monday night. The filled boxes will be delivered to Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritans Purse headed by evangelist Franklin Graham, and then shipped to children all around the world who may not otherwise receive a Christmas gift. Finished gift boxes can be dropped off at the church now through Friday (November 16) between noon and 8 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. People can drop off shoeboxes on Monday (November 19) between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Last year 8,831 shoeboxes were collected at the Whitesburg church. The goal for this year is to collect 9,000 shoeboxes. (Eagle photo)
