Letcher miner dies after rock truck accident

Kentucky suffered its first mine fatality of 2008 this week when a Letcher County man was killed early Tuesday when he was thrown from a rock truck he was driving. Roy Douglas Sturgill II, 29, of Cowan, died of injuries he received when the truck he was driving backed over a steep embankment at Cumberland River Coal Company's Blue Ridge surface mine at Oven Fork. • Avery Johnson, 65, buried at Mayking
Funeral services for Avery Johnson, 65, of Seco, were held December 23 at Everidge Funeral Home. Burial was in the Haven of Rest Cemetery at Mayking. A son of the late Willie and Jane Adams Johnson, he was born in Letcher County. He died December 20 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was the brother of the late Shilie Hall and Dorothy Davis. More...
