Ali Bentley attends Republican National Convention
      Carrie Alexis "Ali" Bentley, a 15-year-old junior at Somerset High School, is representing Kentucky at the 2008 Presidential Youth Leadership Conference (PYLC), sponsored by LeadAmerica. She is the daughter of Joanna Conder of Somerset, and Bill and Patricia Bentley of Whitesburg.

McConnell, Lunsford to debate this month
      LOUISVILLE Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford have accepted an invitation to participate in an old-fashioned debate later this month in northern Kentucky. Instead of taking questions from a moderator or panelists, the rivals will ask each other questions.

Judge orders Massey to rehire miners
      CHARLESTON, W.Va. A federal judge has ordered coal giant Massey Energy to offer new jobs to 85 union miners who lost jobs at a West Virginia mine in 2004. The miners were laid off when Richmond, Va.-based Massey took over the eastern Kanawha County mine after the previous owner, Horizon Natural Resources, went into bankruptcy.

Court will examine Kentucky's self-defense law of 2006
