I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. 2 Timothy 1:12

Last week at ECCO was one of the most busy I remember in a long time. With the help of volunteers Maxine Parsons, Liz Sturgill, Janie Sturgill and Junell Sturgill, we cleaned and organized every day. Our biggest job, and it seemed that way because it was the slowest, was replacing the summer clothes with fall and winter. But we were finally able to see some headway, making it now possible to began our fall projects.

We'll be having Bible study the first and third Monday of each month from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the ECCO community room taught by Pastor Dave Hammond. Everyone is invited. We're also planning aerobics and crafting classes. I'll announce later the decided time and date. By the way, I made an error in last week's column on the beginning date for Kids' Time. The correct date is Sept. 12 beginning 10 a.m. at the community room at ECCO.

Congratulations to Emily Collier from Ovenfork for growing a whopping 16.37-pound cabbage this summer. Emily's third grade class at Arlie Boggs Elementary School took part in a cabbage summer program sponsored by Bonnie Plants. Emily is the granddaughter of Brenda Collier from Ovenfork.

We also want to thank Jimmy Holland for again mowing the grass at the Eolia Community Park during the month of August.

Before closing, I'd like to ask everyone to lift up Seth Collins and his family in your prayers. Seth is a well liked young man in our community with the sweetest spirit of anyone I know. Seth has been diagnosed with cancer and when you pray, please remember Seth and his family in your prayers.

Thought for the day: "I have held many things in my hands and lost them all; but the things I have placed in God's hands, those I always possess."

News from the Ovenfork Senior Citizen Center by Jewell Maggard:

"Hi seniors. How strong is your faith that God will take care of your trials and troubles? Read Hebrews Chapter 11. This week, no matter what comes your way, trust in God to take care of you.

"We took the seniors to a health fair at Ermine. We enjoyed having lunch and a good time with the Ermine seniors.

"Ruby Adams's son, Paul, and his family visited her. She returned home with them for Labor Day weekend.

"Linda Curry and her family were planning a family reunion at the Eolia Community Park.

"Lucy Maggard has been in the hospital at Pikeville, but got to come home.
