Eolia Park Committee planning gospel singing
Eolia
Greetings from the hills and valleys of Eolia and Eolia Christian Community Outreach. A merry heart doeth good like a medicine. Proverbs 17:22 Last week at ECCO was a busy and fun week with several community volunteers helping out with the many chores and little projects. We were happy to receive a load of sweet potatoes from ARM which are now long gone, and a load of cantaloupes from God's Pantry which I hope will stay fresh until pantry day. We had our Bible study with Dave Hammond as the teacher. A while back Dave did a wonderful study on the book of Revelation and later plans to take us into a study of the book of Daniel. But right now he's led to do a teaching on faith. Nine people attended the Bible study and we hear more will be attending the next, which will be Sept. 15 at 7:15 p.m. at the ECCO community room. Everyone is welcome. The Eolia Community Park Committee is planning a gospel singing sometime this fall. We're having a meeting to plan the details, but this I know, admission will be free, there will be plenty of good old-time gospel music and good food. In my book it can't get much better than that. I'll have the date and time in my next column. I was saddened to receive a call from Goldie, the daughter of Lloyd Caudill, from Florida telling me that her dad had died in July. She said she was going through some of his things and came across my phone number. Some of you may remember when I wrote about the sweet old man who came to the mountains of his childhood every year to visit family and friends.. He would come into Shortstop Grocery with a gift of orange blossom honey and a smile as big as all outdoors. The last time I saw Lloyd he was so thin and frail. He told me then, this would be his last trip to the mountains. And he did so in his usual fashion, with a big smile, but this time with a special light in his eyes. With that said, I'll leave you with a quote from Dr. Sidney Winawer, "We all die. Not living is the failure." News from the Ovenfork Senior Citizens Center by Jewel Maggard: "Hi seniors, how did you exercise your faith toward God this week? He sure does take care of us. Why, every heartbeat is God's faith taking care of us. I often think of all the people that work at the senior centers and how each day they are on the road delivering dinners to the sick and elderly. I thank God for keeping us safe and out of harm's way. Read 2 Corn. 5:7 "Ruby Adams has returned home from a trip to Tennessee where she's been visiting family. She said she had a wonderful time in spite of her allergies acting up on her. "Linda Curry said they had a great family reunion with about 60 family members present. Linda was happy to spend several days with her sister, Wilma. "Carmen Brock's family has been sick with a sore throat and coughing. I think a lot of that is going around. "Labor Day weekend several of our seniors were happy to have out-of-town company. Elaine's daughter, Tina, visited from Berea and Mabel Gilliam's son, Vernon, and wife Wilma came home for the weekend. Vernon and Wilma are so good to help Mabel with the chores she is unable to do. "The bear made a visit to my house about 3 a.m. recently. He likes the apples that fall from our apple tree. Marvin says from the size of the paw prints, he's a big one. Just as long as he stays outside and doesn't want to come in the house, that's fine with me. "Let us all remember that God loves us and will supply all our needs."
