Service held here for Ruby Burkich

RUBY HOGG BURKICH Funeral services for Ruby Hogg Burkich, 84, of Whitesburg, were held September 15 at Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.

Born at Blackey, she was a daughter of the late Leslie and Annie Cornett Hogg. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and four sisters.

After graduation from Eastern Kentucky University in 1948, Mrs. Burkich was employed for two years by the university in the Rural Demonstration School mentoring student teachers. She taught at Stuart Robinson School, and in the Bardstown Independent School System. She retired from the Letcher County Schools in 1981.

She was active in the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church and the choir, and was a member and officer of the Pine Mountain Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a two-term president of the Whitesburg Woman's Club.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Jack Burkich; a son, Michael, and wife Pam; a daughter, Jennifer, and partner Marie; a granddaughter, Rebecca; and a sister, Recie Sowder.

Letcher Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
