Lady Cougar volleyball team wins tournament
      After starting the volleyball season with an impressive 14-1 record, the Letcher County Central High School Lady Cougars' schedule took them down in the state to play. Historically this has been where the team ran into some problems winning games so there was some concern and doubt circulating as the team prepared for the trip.

Cougars fall to Commodores
      The Letcher County Central Cougars are trying to put 33-32 loss to Perry County Central behind them this week as they prepare for another important district game against the Clay County Tigers. The Tigers will arrive in Ermine on Friday with 2-1 record after demolishing North Laurel last week, 41-14.

      LEXINGTON As Eldred King took a tipped Hail Mary pass and sprinted toward the end zone in what appeared a likely game-winning TD, one thought prevailed among the Kentucky fans at Commonwealth Stadium. Not again.

Maybe 'shockers' don't happen now
      Kentucky's "save" against Middle Tennessee State University last week left Wildcat fans gasping "Whew, LSU!" referring to the 2001 come-from-ahead loss at game's end. One could view UK's latest botched pass coverage as "times have changed. That doesn't happen here anymore." Take a bow, Robbie McAtee.

Kyle Busch is no longer in control
      A few skeptics out there may still think NASCAR's system of using a 10-race stretch of races to determine its champion isn't in the best interest of the sport. Those people will tell you that it just isn't right to take away the hard-earned points a driver has accumulated after 26 weekends of racing.
