Sarah Back enjoys visit to San Francisco

Blackey
By DIANA COMBS

My cousin, Sarah Back of Lexington, just recently got back from San Francisco. She and a friend went to house-sit for a family member while they were in Thailand. She got to visit Chinatown and Japantown. In those places she said artists would write your name in Chinese or Japanese and you could watch them. She also visited the Haight-Asbury park where the summer of love took place and where the Grateful Dead house still stands. They attended the Outside Lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park where they saw Radiohead, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Wilco, among other performers. They visited North Beach and Fisherman's Wharf and she rode the trolleys.

Sarah said the best part of the trip was being on Baker Beach at sunset with the fog, the ships, and the seagulls in front of you, the city to the left and the Golden Gate Bridge to the right. She had breakfast at a Russian bakery that she said was very good. There was also farmer's markets set up all over town and while you shopped a jazz band would be playing. But Sarah said she was amazed how cold it was for August. She had to wear a jacket and it's hardly ever above 65 degrees. She had a great time and said she would be for sure going back someday. Sarah is the daughter of Dorse and Debbie Back of Elk Creek.

Happy birthday to Elijah Caudill of Blackey. It's on Sept. 19.

Grace Caudill of Elk Creek, fell in her home on Friday and had to be taken to the emergency room by ambulance. It fractured her pelvis in two places. She won't have to have surgery but will have to go to the rehab in Hazard and stay for awhile and won't be able to get up. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Shane Dixon is doing some better. He is talking and I'm sure wanting to come home. He will have more surgery on one of his eyes that was damaged in the wreck.

My great-niece, Emmaleigh Adams, will be getting her leg cast off in two weeks but will have to wear a brace for awhile. She is getting so tired of having to get around in a wheelchair.

Happy birthday to Lonis Morris of Red Star; it was on Sept. 14. Lonis is the son of my late friend, Annette Miller Whitaker.

The test results came back for baby Christian Miller of Blackey and it was good news. There was no problem found; everything was fine. He is the son of Mckenzie and Beck Miller and had to go to Lexington last week for a EEG. Christian is six months old.

The Carcassonne New Covenant Ministries will be having church services on Sundays at 11 a.m. On Sunday, Sept. 21, after the services they will be going to Carr Creek Lake at the boat dock for the baptism of new members and they will also be having dinner there. Everyone is welcome and please bring a covered dish.

Lauren Leeann Adams of Jeremiah, had to be rushed to Lexington on Saturday night. She was having problems with her heart again. She was in the hospital about three weeks in Lexington with the same problem. We are all praying she will get through it again OK. She is the daughter of Dustin Adams and Leslie Gibson. Lauren is three years old.

There was a singing held at the home of Bob and Fay Shuffler on Linefork on Friday and Saturday evenings. They had a big crowd, a lot of good food, and singing. Everyone really enjoyed themselves.
