Tell us what's on your mind. No need to give your name.
E-m@il address In addition to the telephone and the U.S. Mail, The Mountain Eagle accepts comments to Speak Your Piece by electronic mail. Our address is: mteagle@tgtel.com Hello, tomcat in Partridge. It looks like you are going from hollow to hollow. Keep it up. Things are looking better. To the stallion in Jenkins: I would like to hang my bra on your bedpost. A person called in recently to ask what they could use to clean brass. The best stuff is called Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish. It's perfect for all metals. I clean up and restore a lot of brass items with this stuff. You can find it at an automotive supply house or maybe even Wal- Mart. No matter where you stand in this election, whether you're for McCain or Obama, you really owe to yourself to visit the web site www.factcheck.org each day for the rest of the campaign. This nonpartisan site is the only place to find out whether each candidate is telling the truth. If you think that you could live in Premium on Johnson's Fork with what is going on, have your head examined because your brain is not working. Pay a visit to this place and then ponder what kind of government would allow decent people to be treated the way they are being treated. Just pay a visit to Premium. To a man on Linefork: You need to get rid of the trash you're living with and get your family back together. To believe in the existence of God is only natural, normal, practical, beneficial, and satisfying. When one has the key that will unlock the door he knows he has the right key. God's word is tried in the fire. It has stood all tests. To the parents in Letcher County: When your child is being abused, don't call the Social Services officials in Whitesburg. They're too busy having coffee and donuts. They will get theirs on Judgment Day. Hey, Brushey Bill, Plow Boy here. I compliment you on your last commentary in Speak Your Piece. You tell it just like it is. I'm with you. You seem to be an educated man, so see what you can do with that maroon drunk. What I would give for a state trooper every day on Main Street in Jenkins. How wonderful that would be. It seems to me the maroon, or moron, drunk would be a good candidate for a prison guard at the new prison that's supposed to be coming into Letcher County. You are so well acquainted with the booze and know how it's done. You could sneak some beer in to that prison and party down with the prisoners. I saw a guy on TV referring to false prophets as Satan lizards. I think that is an appropriate name for them. There are many of them in our community. Many are in my family. We've been noticing how certain pill heads in the Jeremiah area are allowed to get away with whatever they want just because they think they know the law or have friends who work with Operation UNITE. You silly drugheads are so stupid. No wonder everybody is against you. You all should have left that old woman right where she was, in old Dunham town. You shouldn't have double-crossed her. There's going to be heck to pay. I just wanted to say that if I had to give my woman up to someone I wish it would be King Daddy. He seems like a man who could take care of a woman. King Daddy, if I get ready to get rid of my woman I'll give you a call. What did you do? Go and hide from shame? You should have, but you can't hide from God. He knows your adulteress intentions. If you want a job, go to McDonald's. There's no drug testing there. I understand that our local high school, Letcher County Central, did not do anything to mark the anniversary of 9/11. How do we expect our children to be patriotic when we do not even spend a moment of silence in honor of that terrible tragedy? I also understand that Jenkins High School spent three hours on the subject of 9/11 I wish Superintendent Craft would order football practice changed to one or two days a week. With gas so high people can't afford to get their sons there and back. I don't believe they should have away football games on school nights. The kids have homework and don't get back home until it's too late. They should play the away games on weekends. I agree with the caller who said Sarah Palin sounds just like TV's 'Roseanne.' I also believe Governor Palin and her family have a long future on the 'Jerry Springer Show.' After reading my latest National Enquirer, I wonder if McCain didn't come and steal my neighbor and her family when we weren't looking. The 16-year-old daughter's not married, but got herself pregnant. Like mother, like daughter. And now we find out the Palin boy gets high on OxyContin and that it looks like the governor herself has had an affair with her husband's business partner. Just because Sarah Palin's family is a lot like part of mine doesn't make her qualified to be vice president of our country. It was so good to get to hear from you and talk to you. It helped me so much. And I do love you like I told you. And I always will. Have a happy birthday. If the schools are so worried about the cost of gas, why don't they stop the bus drivers from taking the buses home? They could save half on gas. I'm calling in about the gas prices going up because of the hurricane. I just want to know why the prices go up on the gas that's already in the underground tanks. Friend — I have a friend, He walks with me each day./He's never too busy to hear what I have to say. He is my strength as I do my work each day./When I need a hand He doesn't turn me away./If I get troubled or filled with despair,/I turn to Him, for I know He's always there./He watches over me and keeps me from harm./There's great comfort when embraced by His arms./He watches over me as I lay down to sleep./My body and soul are His to keep./My friend is Jesus, in Him I put my trust./ Since I met Him, my life has a great plus./Jesus paid the price not many would pay./Please open your heart, He'll be your friend today. C.A.C. We would like to thank Truman Thompson, Michael Burton, Mark Sexton with the City Hall/Whitesburg Police Department/ Whitesburg Fire Department and KSP Trooper Adam Hall for saving the life and rescuing a calico cat behind the Social Services building last month. The cat somehow trapped itself in the high wall behind Social Services after a heavy rainstorm. Mr. Thompson assisted with coordinating the rescue effort by immediately dispatching the other three men to the rescue site. All men worked diligently together to save this little fellow and after two attempts and wading in three feet of muddy rainwater, the cat was saved. And, yes, you have read this right — Trooper Adam Hall was part of this mission and did everything to save the cat and Trooper Hall along with the other men deserve a big thank you for going above and beyond their normal duties. It is not everyone who will step up to the plate to assist with saving the little critter. We are very grateful. This is for the comments to someone very special to me: Why did you let go of something you love so good when you know she loves you? And the secret admirer, how do you think anybody knows who you're talking about? Be standing at the phone booth at Wal-Mart at Ermine Sunday at 3:00. Now be there so I'll know or you're all mouth. It doesn't matter if it's different ones. If I know you, that's alright. If I don't, then it was for someone else. No harm done. I have a somewhat idealistic hope of meeting someone with whom I could share and enjoy life, but I have just about given up hope of achieving that goal. I am a 57-year-old man that has been divorced for 2-1/2 years and I miss the companionship of the fairer sex. The problem is that I have had difficulty meeting that someone because of the fact that I don't smoke, drink alcoholic beverages, or take drugs. I take care of myself by exercising and eating right, have enjoyed excellent health, and believe in treating people as I myself want to be treated. It seems that most single women want their man to smoke, drink, do drugs and party. I wish that I might someday meet the companion of my dreams that just likes to hang out, travel, and enjoy the good things of life that God has provided for us, without feeling that they need to 'get high' to be a success. I need someone to care for and to search for whatever destiny our creator has prepared for us together Is my dream only a fantasy that can never be fulfilled? Only time will tell. 'Cri de coeur.' Caregiver. What is a caregiver? Well, the definition from the Random House College Dictionary is as follows: care is 'to worry for, a cause of object concern, serious attention, caution, protection, sorrow, to take care of, watch over, to be responsible for, to be concerned about, to look out for, to be provisional for, liking, fondness,' and the list goes on. Got a clue yet of what care means? Giver means 'to present voluntarily, to place in someone's care, to hand to someone, to pay for and transfer to someone, to grant, to set forth, to produce.' And the list goes on and on. Got a clue yet of what giver means? You see, to be a caregiver or to deserve the title caregiver, you first have to care about a person. Care about their feelings. Make sure their needs are met. Make sure they are comfortable. Make them feel loved. Worry about them, and do them no harm. Give them peace of mind. Give them love and encouragement. Give them their privacy. Give them anything they want or need to make them happy. A caregiver does not strip a helpless elderly person of their dignity. A caregiver does not yell at them and scream at them or let your children yell at them and scream at them especially in front of other people just to embarrass them. That's what a real caregiver is. Now do you have a clue? In my opinion you do not deserve to be called caregiver. Evidently you do not know what the word caregiver means. You know what I dislike. I dislike liars. They cause nothing but trouble and a little white lie can cause someone to get killed. Well, liars will go to hell as well as a killer will. I hope they know that because I sure do. We may be having a hard time now, but they will get what's coming to them. Payback can be cruel and it's not merciful. I assure you of that. I hope those people that this to heart and change their lying, two-faced ways. I hope they know as much as I dislike them, I'm praying for them. To the fat cow: Try Jenny Craig. It works. You need a damn flatbed, and stop eating pizza. Eat Subway. It worked for Jared it can work for your fat rump. And quit wearing the bright colors. They don't look good on a whale. Stick with black or sweaters. If you can't afford the flatbed, get a Suburban to haul that fat rump. Seat belts are not meant to be tied in knots just to make them longer to fit around you. That is illegal; just ask any cop. Please consider other people's eyes. They hurt and burn, sometimes bleed when you are around. I would like to wish my precious child a happy fourth birthday, Sept. 15, Tyler Allen Wade Yeary. Sorry I couldn't make it there in time. Promise I will make it up to you. Be good till Daddy comes home. I love you. From your father, Dustin Yeary. I think it's a shame how far we've fallen. A few weeks ago I was at the Whitesburg Wal-Mart and a young woman and her kids were getting ready to get in their car when she noticed that she had locked her keys inside the car. I was about to offer her my assistance and see if I could unlock the doors for her seeing how her windows were down enough to possibly get the doors unlocked. But before I could ask to be of service, she started yelling at her kids and using language that I thought was very rude and offensive. So I just walked on by and let her deal with it herself. Was it wrong for me to have done that? Maybe it was. But it did get me to thinking and realize how far our society has fallen. That the decline of morals is so bad. That is become commonplace for children to be exposed to this kind of vile language from their parents. Who knows what other dreadful things they are exposed to in their homes if this is how their parents act in a public setting? Questions and concerns come up almost weekly about the unfairness and ineffectiveness of the law enforcement and judicial systems in Letcher County — selective enforcement, harsh sentences in the courts for some, while others get a pat on the head, no enforcement for some communities while others are well covered, retribution warrants issued generously for some by county attorneys, and no response to calls for help. The why of this situation can probably be answered, as many other questions can, by following the money, and one of the best ways to do this is to check FERC records on the Internet and see who contributed to whom. These will provide only the legal contributions, of course, but they give a good indication. Judges can legally accept donations from defense lawyers, but should they? Judge/executives can legally accept contributions from out-of-state oil and gas executives, but doesn't that give a pretty good idea of how they will treat oil and gas companies? Should law enforcement accept funding from chronic lawbreakers, even if they legally can? How about someone paying more to get into an office than they will be paid during their tenure in the office? There is a big difference in what is legal and in what is honest and ethical. That judgment doesn't seem to be a big consideration for officials, so it must be made by voters. People must realize that the reputation of this area must be improved before there can be any progress in the lifestyle here, and that improvement must be made by honest, concerned, patriotic citizens. Genesis Chapter I V:21-V:22:31 And God created after their own kind. God blessed them, saying be fruitful and multiply. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very, very good. Genesis Chapter 2 V:2:7:22 On the seventh day, God ended his work and rested. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostril the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the rib which the Lord God had taken from man, made him a woman and brought for Adam to take as a helpmate her unto man; To be his helpmate. Knowing good and evil. Then sin came into the world. The serpent, fruit eating in the garden, woman Eve her husband Adam. Then sex was made dirty. What is sex? Making love or having sex with husband Adam which is why Adam came into wife, woman Eve. Not the woman coming into man or the woman coming into woman. Eve and Adam did multiply, having children. Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorra. Why? Because of men's wickedness and sex. Genesis Chapter 19 V:1-38. Howdy, Brushey Bill here. As presidential candidate, I will soon announce my cabinet members who will be chosen from the surrounding cities of Pine Mountain. One each from the cities of Pine Creek, Cram Creek, Pert Creek, Oven Fork, and Pound. Today I will give my response to the topics shown in your paper addressed by my opponents, Mr. McCain and Mr. Obama. Abortion: I'm dead aginst killing unborn babies, however late term abortion seems like a good idea. If'n your kids git to about 12 or 13 and ain't turning out like you want, take them back to the abortion clinic. Campaign finance: Neither of my opponents should be allowed to spend a dime more'n ole Brushey Bill. I have a Prince Albert 'baccer can full of money buried in my backyard, and intend to only spend enough to git me elected. Cuba: Apologize to them fer the way we've been treatin' them fer the past 50 years. They're the only country in the world who don't hate us, and ain't never done nothing bad to us. Yep, Castro probably had Kennedy kilt, but Kennedy tried to kill Fidel at least six times using the Mafia and the CIA. The death penalty: I'm fer it, providing you're sure they're guilty. Shoot a dose of sodium pentathol into the behinds of death row inmates and they'll talk like a bunch of paul parrots. If they're guilty, hang them on the spot and don't waste taxpayers' money on them. The Dr. Acker murderers are a good example of justice being delayed for 40 years. Energy: We got plenty of energy sources if we stop sending our coal overseas, and our oil from the Alaska pipeline to Japan. We gotta stop wastin' what we got on big cars and bigger houses. I have already proposed use of smaller vehicles like ATV's and golf carts on our roads to save gas. I will propose a tax of $10,000 a room for any house with more bedrooms than kids. No one needs to heat a 27-room mansion they don't need. Health care and education: They go together. I will see that all smart kids get a free education, if they want to be doctors, engineers, or anything useful. They will be given a good, but fixed salary, but if they try to get out of the deal, they will have to pay back triple their tuition plus interest. That should provide plenty of doctors and nurses and cut health costs. Gay marriage: I'm agin it but I'll allow it if they move to California. I plan to put a fence around that place, too. Global warming: Me and Barney have give it a lot of thought lately. The good Lord set up a lot of checks and balances to keep the good Earth just right fer us, like day and night, the four seasons, tidal currents, ice caps, the ozone layer, clouds, wind, rain forests, wetlands, and millions more we don't even know about. I know all them book-learned scientists have a lot of high and mighty theories about what's causing it, but the only difference between a scientific theory and a guess is 12 years of college, and the guess is usually more accurate. Housing: Everyone deserves a nice home. Homeless people will be allowed to move into all those empty bedrooms in them rich people's mansions. The government will make loans directly to home buyers, cutting out the middlemen (banks and finance companies). Immigration: There ain't going to be none. Overpopulation is most of our problems already. If you don't think America is overpopulated, go to Whitesburg on check day. Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan: Git all our troops back home now. Let them people over there fix their own messes. After all, they're the ones who made them in the first place. Social Security: Let everyone pay their fair share. I think it's 8.6 percent for workers and 17.4 percent for self-employed people. Eliminate the cap and let all them CEO's with multi-million dollar salaries pay their 17 percent and we'll have money to spare. Taxes: Too many, too much. Let everyone pay the same rate. If the filthy rich paid the same percentage as we do, there would be plenty of money. Free trade: How come the Chinese can flood Wal-Mart with their cheap junky products, taking every manufacturing job in the U.S., but we can't even set up a flea market beside the road? Take down them signs immediately. Free trade for all Americans. Flea markets are the best thing that ever happened to this country. I am sure the voters of the country who agree with me and Barney will git out and elect a good man fer a change. Sincerely yours, Brushey Bill fer president.
