A jury trial is set to begin next week for a 37-year-old Deane man charged with shooting a friend to death after a night of drinking beer together on July 3, 2007. A Letcher County environmental and government watchdog died this week after a freak accident near his home at Elk Creek, near Blackey. John Cleveland, 55, died after a tree he was cutting fell on him. Letcher County Deputy Coroner Robbie Campbell said a tree Cleveland cut Sunday had lodged into another tree, which Cleveland was attempting to cut on Monday. More...
