Ellis and Ila Adams host molasses stir-off

By DELANA BANKS

On Sept. 21, Opal Banks, Bill Adams, Sue Goodson, Bob and I went to Dayton, Ohio, to attend the funeral for Opal and Bill's sister, Martha Adams Howard. We stayed overnight at Middletown, Ohio, near the home of Anthony and Beth Banks. Anthony and Beth came over to the hotel for a visit while we were there. The next morning, we went on to Dayton for the funeral services. Bill and Opal's sister, Danola Bell, and their brother, Luther Adams, and their families were also able to attend. After services, we went to the cemetery and then headed home. It was a sad time, but all made the trip okay.

Martha grew up in the Carbon Glow coal camp and was 91 years old. Her sisters, Hazel Adams and Susie Raglin, and her brother ,Junior Adams, were not able to make the trip. Our sympathy goes out to Martha's two daughters, Deanna and Donna, and to all of her family.

Our sympathy also goes to the family of John Cleveland who died recently in an accident at his home. He and Artie Ann and son Davey lived in Artie Ann's grandparents' log house on Elk Creek.

Recently, a memorial meeting was held at the cemeteries located behind Letcher School. A good crowd of family and friends came out to remember their loved ones.

The above items were for last week's column, minus the yard sales at various homes. Sorry my column didn't make it in last week's paper but hopefully everyone did well at their sales.

Ellis and Ila Adams had a large crowd of helpers and onlookers at their annual molasses stir-off on Saturday. They made over 30 gallons of molasses and everyone enjoyed the day.

The family of Hiram and Ella Pridemore had their reunion at the Blackey Senior Citizens building on Saturday. Billie Jean, Don, Elva, Lee, Ford, Lenville and Darrell and their spouses were all able to be there, as well as some of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends. We had a good dinner and a nice visit together.

Lee and Wilma's daughter, Traci Madden, hasn't been feeling well and we all are hoping she will be feeling better soon.

We hope Tim Blair, son of Bruce and Mary Ellen Blair of Sycamore, didn't get hurt too badly when he fell off of a roof of a house he was working on.

Belated birthday wishes to Bob's aunt and our neighbor, Hazel Adams.
