Cougars take 'game of year'
      It was the game of the year this past Friday night as the Letcher County Central Cougars traveled to Harrodsburg to take on the Titans of Mercer County in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. The Titans are coached by Marty Jaggers and were coming off a first-round victory over Perry Central (57-21).

Let's not overlook Carl Edwards
      Jimmie Johnson's third straight Sprint Cup title no doubt puts him in a league of his own when it comes to present-day Cup drivers. Only Cale Yarborough has ever been able put three championships together before Johnson, and there is no reason not to believe that Johnson will not distance himself from Yarborough next season by winning his fourth consecutive title.

Brooks: Cobb ready
      Kentucky freshman quarterback Randall Cobb says he won't have revenge on his mind when he leads the Wildcats against Tennessee on Saturday. A native of Alcoa, Tenn., near Knoxville, Cobb wasn't heavily recruited by the Volunteers. At Kentucky he made an immediate impact, first as a receiver and now as starting quarterback in a retooled spread offense.

Lady Jackets win LCEAA tourney
      The Whitesburg Middle School Lady Jackets basketball team won the A-team Tournament of the Letcher County Elementary Athletic Association Nov. 9 at the Fleming-Neon gymnasium. WMS defeated the Letcher Elementary Eagles 40-27 to take the title.
