Says all teachers should vote to re-elect Rep. Smith
To the Editor:
As a former president of the Letcher County Teachers Organization (LCTO) and president of KEA-Retired, I would like to inform school employees and retirees and other Democratic voters that Representative Ancel "Hard Rock" Smith supported reasonable retirement reform in House Bill 600 and opposed the last minute budget deal that cut teachers' salary increases from 2% to 1% for the next two years.
On the other hand, Senator Johnny Ray "Retired Teacher" Turner voted for Senator Williams' drastic retirement changes that would start the switch from defined benefit pensions to defined contribution savings accounts and went aong with reducing teachers' salary increases from 2% to 1%.
Thanks Ancel for caring. Maybe Johnny Ray needs a karate chop.
