Letcher grand jury returns 20 indictments

The Letcher County Grand Jury has named 13 people in 20 indictments, including a Dry Fork man charged in five separate indictments.

Curtis Stony Cornet Jr., 41, 37 Butterfly Drive at Dry Fork is charged with five counts of possession of a forged instrument, five counts of theft by deception, and five counts of being a persistent felony offender in the five indictments.

The grand jury says he had forged authorizations on June 21, 2009 on the credit account of Mike Wright at Ermine Exxon Double Kwik, the Highway 15 Marathon Double Kwik, the Pine Mountain Junction Double Kwik, the Neon Marathon Double Kwik, and the Neon BP Double Kwik, all owned by Childers Oil Co.

Whitesburg Police Captain Justin Gayheart testified in all five cases.

Also indicted by the grand jury are:

• Kelvin Mullins — three counts of retaliation against a participant in a legal process, and three counts of being a persistent felony offender.

Mullins, 35, of 11994 Hwy. 805, Jenkins, is charged in three separate indictments. The grand jury says he threatened April Damron Charles, John Wyatt, and Brenda Hall on August 8, 2009.

Letcher County Deputy Bert Slone testified in the cases.

• Allen Carl Mullins Jr. — trafficking in a controlled substance.

Mullins, 32, of 2859 Horton Ford Road, Eidson, Tenn., is charged with trafficking in Oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance, on December 8, 2008.

Kentucky State Police Detective Crandall Hurt testified in the case.

• Heather Rena Hall — complicity to trafficking in a controlled substance.

Hall, also known as Heather R. Mullins, 39, of 2859 Horton Ford Road, Eidson, Tenn., is charged with complicity with Allen L. Mullins Sr. to trafficking in Oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance, on December 30, 2008.

• Melissa L. Slone — complicity to burglary, complicity to robbery, complicity to assault, and complicity to terroristic threatening.

Slone, 19, of 400 Coldwater Branch Road, Betsy Layne, is accused of burglary at the home of James McPherson at 180 Rocky Hollow Road, Jenkins, with Ricky Allen Bates Jr. on August 14, 2009. She and Bates are accused of threatening McPherson and/or members of his family with a wooden club and dumbbell weight and injuring McPherson.

Jenkins Police Officer Anthony Maggard testified in the case.

• Sarah Thompson — trafficking in a controlled substance.

Thompson, 26, of 551 Grey's Branch, Haymond, is charged with trafficking in Oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance, on February 8, 2009.

In a separate indictment, the grand jury says Thompson trafficked in Oxycodone on February 11, 2009.

Kentucky State Police Detective Crandall Hurt testified in both cases.

• Dwayne Stinett — theft by deception.

The grand jury accuses Stinett, 47, of 46 J&J Drive, Littcarr, with obtaining an $800 cash deposit from Denver and Dema S. Meade on Sept. 15, 2008 for the purchase and installation of new windows for their home, which he failed to provide.

Dema S. Meade testified in the case.

• Cooley K. Cornett — terroristic threatening and harassing communication.

Cornett, 61, of 107 R.B. Road, Blackey, is charged with threatening Thurston Sturgill and/or members of his household on July 25, 2009. He is also charged with harassing the Sturgill household by telephone.

• John Mark Gross — sexual abuse.

Gross, 40, of 584 Hwy. 806, Eolia, is accused of sexually abusing a person less than 18 years of age on August 8, 2009.

• Walter Parnell Fields — trafficking in a controlled substance and being a persistent felony offender.

The grand jury says Fields, 48, of 455 Grey's Branch, Cromona, trafficked in Oxycontin, a Schedule II controlled substance, on February 15, 2008.

• John Brown — two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance.

Brown, 55, of 170 Delta Drive, Partridge, is charged with trafficking in Dilaudid and morphine, both Schedule II controlled substances, on March 12, 2009.

• Todd Steven Jones — trafficking in a controlled substance.

The grand jury says Jones, also known as Todd Steven Richardson, 31, of P.O. Box 32, Mayking, trafficked in Suboxone, a Schedule II controlled substance, on September 12, 2008.

• Spencer Jent — trafficking in a controlled substance.

Jent, 44, of 2179 Breeding's Creek Rd., Redfox, is charged with trafficking in Oxycontin, a Schedule II controlled substance, on July 30, 2007.
