Motorcycle crash kills Virginia man in Jenkins

A Virginia man died in a motorcycle crash in Jenkins on July 29.

Kentucky State Police said Jimmy Travis Walker, 40, of Clintwood, Va., was operating a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle on U.S. 23 at 6:41 a.m. when he attempted to pass another motorist and struck a 1999 Kenworth tractor/trailer truck operated by Bobby D. Morris, 47, of Whitesburg. Police said Walker struck a rear tire of the coal truck trailer.

Walker, who was wearing a safety helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.

Morris was not injured.

Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Tommy Gearheart has charge of the accident investigation. Officer from the Jenkins Police Department and Jenkins Volunteer Fire Department responded and assisted with the collision.
