Rites held for Rev. John Harms

Funeral services for the Reverend John Harms, 83, of Jenkins, were held June 17 at the Beefhide First Alliance Church. Burial was in the Haynes Cemetery at Jenkins.

Born in Crookshank Saskatchewan, Canada to the late Abram and Agatha Friesen Harms, he died June 13 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.

He was graduated with a Doctorate of Divinity degree, was a fulltime pastor for more than 52 years, and had served in Ashcamp, Fogertown and Burdine.

Rev. Harms was named to the Honourable Order of the Kentucky Colonels.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Margaret Young Harms; four children, Larry Harms and wife Pam of London, Lynn Schell and Layne Harms, both of Jenkins, and Lorne Harms and wife Maria of Hallsville, Tex.; a brother, Jake Harms and wife Sharon of Surrey, B.C., Canada; five grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and a greatgreat grandchild.

Carty Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
