Musician Sonny Houston dies

Well known musician Sonny ( Martin Wayne) Houston, 67, died July 5 after a brief illness.

Born in Fleming to the late Denton and Sophia Houston, he was graduated from Fleming-Neon High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree in recording engineering from Middle Tennessee State University.

He was a musician and songwriter since the age of 18, and taught mountain music in Atlanta, Ga.

Surviving are two brothers, Ronnie Houston and wife Belinda of Xenia, Oh., and Randy Houston and wife Jackie of Bardstown; two sisters, Susan and husband Ken of Martin, and Lee Ann and husband Keith of Bardstown; three nieces, Kimmie Shea Wright and husband Craig of Xenia, Oh., and Susan Houston and Keisha Holbrook, both of Bardstown; four nephews, Brenton and wife Samantha of Neon, Randy Alan and wife Heather of Louisville, Jamie of Xenia, Oh., and Jordon Holbrook and wife Katie of Bardstown; 15 great-nieces and greatnephews, and five greatgreat nieces and great-greatnephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Houston were held July 8 at the Neon First Church of God. Internment will be at a later date.

Carty Funeral Homes had charge of arrangements.
