No charges expected in crash that killed 8-year-old

Sister, brother, mother also injured in 3-vehicle wreck

An 8-year-old girl was killed and a 14-year old girl, a 2-year-old boy and their mother were seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash at Ermine today.
KSP Trooper Scott Caudill said a car with a family of four was turning left into Golden Apple fruit market about 12:45 p.m. when it was struck in the rear by a full-size Dodge pickup and knocked into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer. Caudill said it appeared the driver of the pickup had tried to stop, then veered off the road to miss the car, but still clipped the right rear corner, pushing the car across the road. Caudill said no charges are expected to be filed. Caudill said heavy rain and road conditions contributed to the collision.
Police are not releasing the names of the victims, but other sources say Brianna Hall, 8, died in the accident. Makayla Venters,14, was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn. The mother, Katie Hall, and 2-year-old Jaxson Hall were taken to Pikeville Medical Center.
Medical helicopters were grounded due to the weather, and the injured had to be transported by ground ambulance.
Traffic was backed up to Pine Mountain Junction until about 8:30 p.m. while troopers reconstructed the crash. Motorists were taking an alternate route through Sandlick and Thornton.
