Burglary suspect Dakota Bates is seen on surveillance footage taken by a camera at Family Dollar Store in Isom over the weekend. He remained at large Tuesday night. A Letcher County man wanted in connection with the burglary of more than $1,200 in cash from an Isom store was still at large at Mountain Eagle press time Tuesday night.

Police are looking for a man they have identified as Dakota Bates, who is accused of stealing $1,293.43 from the Family Dollar store at Isom on Saturday.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Matt Gayheart said surveillance video shows Bates entering the store, climbing over a counter and crawling to a safe that had been left open.

Police said Bates is being charged with theft instead of robbery because there was no threat and no violence to any store employees, none of whom were near the location of the safe at the time of the theft.

Gayheart said an arrest warrant has been issued, but that Bates has not yet been located.

Police are asking anyone with knowledge of Bates’s whereabouts to call the KSP Hazard post at (606) 435-6069.
