Community calendar

August 3 — The Letcher County Interagency Council will host the Community Health and Resource Fair from 1 to 6 p.m. at Letcher County Central High School. Information will be available on programs and resources for which people may be eligible. There is no admission fee and the event will include hourly door prizes, a grand prize at the end, face painting and free food.

. August 3 — The Pine Mountain Regional Industrial Development Authority Board of Directors will meet at 12:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Pineville Community Hospital.

. August 4 — HLT Check Exchange, along with Pine Mountain Rent to Own will host their annual Back to School Bash from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 407 HWY 119 N, in Whitesburg. Free school supply packs, free food and drinks, face painting, and other activities. Register to win one of two backpacks full of school supplies and one of two bicycles that will be given away that day. For more information, call (606) 633-3143.

. August 5 —Bluegrass Circle will play at the Country Cabin II in Norton, Va., from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children 2 to 11 years old. For more information, call (276) 679-3541.

. August 11-13 — The East Kentucky All- Day Singing from The Sacred Harp, a shape note songbook, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, at Calvary Campus at Letcher. It is free and open to the public and all are welcome. The event will include dinner, bluegrass and dancing on Friday night, a square dance and gospel sing on Saturday

. August 12 — The Millstone Methodist Church will host the Millstone reunion beginning at noon. Everyone is welcome. The use of the parking lot, restrooms and kitchen is free. . August 12 — There will be a square dance at Carcassonne Community Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Music by Sunrise Ridge, caller Randy Wilson. Adults $5, students 6-18, $3. Children under 6 free with paying adult. Concessions and souvenirs available. Special visitors will be Shape Note singers from around the country.

. August 19 — The Elkhorn Shrine Club will hold a four-wheeler poker run, rain or shine, at Fishpond Lake in Letcher County. Sign-up is at 11 a.m. and the ride begins at noon. The cost is $10 per poker hand and prizes are $100 for best hand and $50 for second best hand. Hotdogs, chips and soft drinks will be provided at the end of the ride.
