Chester Rayburn dies at 81


CHESTER B. RAYBURN CHESTER B. RAYBURN Chester B. Rayburn, 81, of Liberty, died August 23 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born in Liberty to the late John Harrison and Cora Henderson Rayburn, he was a brother of the late Eula McAninch and Mildred Wethington, and a brother-in-law of the late Curtis Wethington.

He was a grandfather of the late Joseph Rayburn.

Mr. Rayburn was a retired schoolteacher of 33 years in Goshen, Ohio, and had managed a hardware store.

A U.S. Army veteran, he had also served in the Kentucky and Ohio National Guard and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

He was a member of the Little Cowan Baptist Church in Whitesburg, where he served as a deacon, and had served as a Boy Scout master and Demolay advisor.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Verna Banks Rayburn; a son, Kevin

D. Rayburn and wife Melissa of Leitchfield; a daughter, Renee Stevenson and husband Shawn of Columbus, Oh.; and nine grandchildren.

Military graveside services for Mr. Rayburn were held August 26 at Glenwood Cemetery with honors by the Casey County Honor Guard. There were also Masonic rites held at Glenwood Cemetery.
