Adopt-a-ducks to race on the Kentucky River

Up to 2,500 adopted rubber ducks will race to the finish line under the walking bridge on the North Fork of the Kentucky River at Mountain Heritage Village in Whitesburg in the Adopt-A-Duck Race sponsored by HOMES, Inc. The race will begin at 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23.

The first 10 ducks to cross the finish line will win prizes for their adoptive parents and the last duck to cross the finish line will also win a prize. Proceeds will benefit the start of an emergency accessibly repair program.

The cost of the adoption of rubber ducks is Single Quack: $5 for one duck; Quack Pack, $25 for six ducks; and Mega Quack, $50 for 12 ducks and a free duck race t-shirt. Prizes are first place $500 plus t-shirt, second place $250 plus tshirt, third place $125 plus t-shirt, fourth to 10th place t-shirt, and last place $125 plus t-shirt.

Ducks are adoptable at the HOMES, Inc. office, 65 Bentley Ave., Whitesburg, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Wednesday, Sept. 20. Beginning Thursday, Sept. 21, ducks can be adopted at the HOMES Inc., booth in the Mountain Heritage Village. Ducks can be adopted up to one hour prior to the race.
