Pioneer Festival planned

Come see us on Saturday, Sept. 30, from noon to 8:30 p.m. for the Pioneer Festival, which is the grand finale of the Back to Our Appalachian Roots Project. Various presenters will be on hand to demonstrate their skills. A community dinner and a square dance will take place in the evening. Dinner at 5:30 and square dance at 6:30. We encourage you to dress in pioneer-style clothing. It promises to be a real good time. We will eat and dance and enjoy ourselves. We want you to be there. Rain or shine we will enjoy this event.


This project is funded by an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Flex-EGrant through the Kentucky Department for Local Government and administered by Brushy Fork Institute at Berea College. Flex-E-Grant funds are made available to economically distressed ARC counties in Kentucky for projects that build local capacity.

Inclement weather : Check our Facebook page two hours before any scheduled event. Any updates will be posted by then. If main roads and our parking area are clear we usually have events as posted.

Saturday, Sept. 30: Our first annual Pioneer Festival will be held as the grand fi- nale of the 2017 Back to Our Appalachian Roots Project. Knife making, gardening, beekeeping, canning, quilting, butter churning, and more. Space for folks to set up arts, crafts, and demonstrate skills will be available free. Sutlers and sellers are welcome. Open mic from 12 to 5:30 p.m. (Acoustic only please). Cooking and preparation will begin early in the morning. Plan to spend your day with us and around 5:30 we will have a community dinner for all who are interested. The cost of the dinner will be $10 adults and $5 for students. Children under 5 eat free. At 6:30 we will be having a square dance called by Randy Wilson. The square dance will last two hours. We hope you will come and share your skills and pioneer knowhow. We hope to have a great number of families who bring their children and join us. Everyone is encouraged to dress in pioneer style. To participate in open mic, call 606-671-7023.

Oct. 25: The Right Fork Ramblers.

Friday Nite Pickin’: Children get in free when accompanied by an adult. Open mic at intermission. Family friendly environment.
