I’m trying to figure out the difference between ESPN and MSNBC. ESPN has turned into a political network. They want to talk about all the politics in the world and ignore the sports part of it.

.

I think it’s a bunch of bull malarkey that every time you try to get a certain heating and cooling service to come out and work on your air conditioner or your heat pump they act like they have other things to do. Then you wait four or five days and try calling them back and they won’t even answer the phone. I am going to report them to the Better Business Bureau because they should not treat people who buy their heat pumps from them in this manner.

.

Trump promised us he’d get us jobs, especially in the coal industry. On Inauguration Day the unemployment rate in Kentucky was down to 4.8 percent thanks to the good work of President Obama. Now it’s 5.4 percent. Trump also promised us he’d eliminate the national debt of almost 20 trillion dollars in eight years. Now it’s gone above 20 trillion under his mismanagement. Had he been telling the truth and was on track, he would have lowered it by 125 billion dollars by now. So, was what he told us alternative facts, fake news, or just his normal bald face lies to get gullible people to vote for him?

.

Some information for the person who sits in the pharmacy drive-through for 10 minutes at a time: It takes time to fill a prescription; it can’t be done instantly. To sit there for 10 minutes and block the other people who need to drop off or pick up prescriptions is rude. Drop off your prescription, go park nearby for 10 minutes, allow others to use the window, then come back and get your drugs. Bring a good book to read. When you block the window for 10 minutes, everyone knows you’re just a jerk.

.

I am calling about what Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, said: My stadium, my uniforms, my helmet, and my shoes. If you want to work for me, go out there and put your hand over your heart and respect the flag. If you’ve got a problem with that there are 31 other teams you can play for, you’re just not going to play here.

(The words you attribute to Jerry Jones, owner of the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys, were disavowed as ‘fake news’ by spokesmen for Jones and the Cowboys when the quotes first appeared on a Facebook account belonging to a man identifying himself as ‘Richie Newberry’ nearly one year ago, on October 7, 2016. The same fake quotes were also attributed to Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt. On Monday night, Mr. Jones led members of his Cowboys team as they ‘took a knee’ before the playing of the national anthem in University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals. The action by Jones and the Cowboys were the latest response by NFL owners and players to controversial comments made by President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Alabama last week.)

.

I find it amusing that I’ve never seen (a certain candidate) out and about until now that he’s running for (a certain office). And when I see him he is riding with another (certain person) …

(As this edited comment indicates, the races are now on in the 2018 primary and general elections for countywide offices in Letcher County. Speak Your Piece welcomes comments about the various political races as long as the comments pertain to legitimate issues and not personalities. With all due respect to the person who originated this comment, we did not use it in its entirety because it is more of a personal attack than a concern about an issue. The caller is welcome to rework the comment and submit it once again.)

.

To a certain person: I’m about as worried about you busting my mouth as I am about you dunking a basketball. There’s no way you could do either of them. I’m around a certain location in Jenkins nearly every day if you want to come on down.

.

Just got The Mountain Eagle and was looking through Speak Your Piece and came across something that absolutely makes no sense whatsoever. It begins, ‘to a certain person’ and the author goes on to say he or she is not a log skidder and ends with if ‘I find out who you are.’ Who in the world comes up with something like this? The mentality of some people leaves a lot of room for improvement.

.

I would just like to thank the Mountain Heritage Festival participants for all the food and entertainment this year, some of it free. Thanks to the Shriners, ARH, Mountain Comp, and the festival committee. I am very proud of them.

.

What’s on my mind is a young lady in a dark blue Jeep Cherokee with Ohio plates on it. She is a very attractive lady and I would like to know if she would like to have a boyfriend or a husband if she doesn’t already have one. If you’d like to meet and sit and talk at Fishpond Lake or somewhere I would very much be willing. You are goodlooking; I know that.

.

Sanctuary cities are against federal law. Politicians make decisions based on personal feelings or propaganda without finding out the real facts about what they are deciding on.

.

To all you people who are throwing the garbage out: Quit throwing the damn garbage out. Pick it up and quit being sorry.

.

The county says it is broke, but they still bring gravel and a big grader up on Pert Creek through the weeds. I wish they would do something about these weeds, all of which have now gone to seed.

.

Before our president did so, no one had ever gone to the United Nations and threatened to wipe out an entire country. Even the worst of our past presidents had more character than to do such a thing. There are tens of millions of innocent civilians in North Korea. What church does Trump attend where they teach this is good? Where do his enablers go? I think I hear Jesus weeping and Satan laughing.

.

Jim Ward will be all right for a judge. He’ll be better than what we’ve got in there now, because everybody likes Jim Ward pretty good. He’ll be better than what we’ve got, because we sure don’t have anything in there now.

( Jim Ward has been Letcher County’s judge since January 2007. He is seeking a fourth term next year.)

.

I think Everidge Funeral Home should buy a refrigerator for use by the public, because people with loved ones there need cold drinks sometimes.

.

To a fellow who drives a black Jeep that comes down KY 160 and buys his drugs at a another certain fellow’s house: If you don’t quit coming to where you are coming, the next time you come after your little load I’m going to have the law sitting there waiting on you. I’m going to have you and your little drug buddy there thrown in the slammer for a while. And I’ll guarantee you one thing: He gets out of jail a lot quicker than you do.

.

I just wanted to comment about someone who called or wrote in about waiting 10 minutes to get his or her prescription filled. Honey, I’ve waited half an hour. So you did better than I did.

.

Immigrants from Asia brought in a bug that killed all the American chestnut trees in this country. Could it be that immigrants brought the bug in that gave the deer the Blue Tongue? Just a thought.

.

I sure wish it would hurry and get wintertime so I can close the doors and won’t have to smell the smoke from all these ignorant people burning garbage all the time. It’s a shame a man can’t even open his doors and windows anymore because of people smoking you plumb out of your house. I guess the county likes that, though, because it’s garbage they don’t have to fool with. It saves them money.

.

With all the conflict going on in the world, including in the Middle East, what a great relief it is that we finally got a deal with Iran that stops any of that country’s nuclear ambitions in its tracks. Yet, against the advice of our top military and intelligence people and our allies, our president wants to tear up the Iranian deal because he’s ticked off at Iran on other issues. What’s the matter with him? We do not need another Iran or Vietnam. We’ve got enough problems already, and yet he seems to want to get us into a war just for drama and his ego. This is very disturbing. I hope Congress does not support him in trying to tear up something we agreed to. If he says Iran is not in compliance he is lying. Our allies think so, too.

.

I don’t see how a certain man can father all of these children, all in Letcher County. He’s been married four or five times and had children with every one of the women. As soon as something goes wrong, he bails out and turns his back on the children and never looks back. How can a man have that type of heart in him?

.

I don’t know if you guys have been watching any of this, but a Kentucky man who claims to have studied astronomy at the University of Louisville tried to claim that this past Saturday — September 23 — was going to be the end of time. What I’ve got to tell this man, David Meade, is this: My Good Book tells me that not even the angels in heaven will know when this day is coming. So, Mr. Professor, I hope to God you’re a better professor than you are a predictor. I teach my children that not even the angels in heaven know. And no, you don’t know. These people who try to tell us they’ve seen heaven and the streets of gold are liars.

.

Why in the world would the president trash Elton John? And to U. N. leaders of all people?

.

Dear Speak Your Piece: Our government is stepping way beyond its bounds as far as sick people are concerned. Everyone in this country is not an addict. Our state government is now telling pain doctors to not just give people pain medicine, but to do dangerous injections on pain patients or cut them off their pain medicines. I’m sorry that people have died because they were addicts and took too much of their pain medicine, but the people who do take their medicines right should not be discriminated against. I’ll have more scary stuff to tell you about what our government is doing to us. Stay tuned.

.

Good day. Let me say this: Iran does not need a nuclear reactor. Doesn’t Iran supposedly have no fuel? All of this would be to create a nuclear weapon to fire at Israel or any other place. And as far as that little old rocket man, he’s just going to push it to limit.

.

Mr. President, I’m like you when it comes to those who kneel during the national anthem. A lot of good folks died for these little old millionaires who are kneeling. Those who are kneeling ought to have the lifestyle of us poor for one month, or even one hour, and they would know how good this nation has been to them. Mr. President, I’m like you — get the SOB’s off the field. I say protest the NFL and any other games that support their players kneeling to our national anthem. God bless America. If was at an NFL game and one of those players was kneeling I would slap the pee out him.

.

To a certain male singer who has a singing group: You need to watch who you are rebuking in a church service. I know this brother who you tried to rebuke very well. He is a highly anointed man of God. I also know his family. They are really good and honest Christian people. You need to look out.

.

I was watching all this kneel-down stuff on the NFL telecasts. I have been contemplating getting rid of it, and now I’m done with it. I had four brothers in the Army, two on the front line — one in World War II and one in Korea. I go and put flags on all four of their graves on Memorial Day. It’s men like my brothers who gave these millionaire players and other people the right to protest. I don’t have to go to the games and I don’t have to watch them. They can do whatever they want to do, but I will not trade with the people who sponsor the games. Enough is enough. If you don’t love this country, get the hell out of it. The worst thing that ever happened to this country is when they got rid of the draft. These prisons are full of young men who would have made something out of themselves if they’d had to join the military.

.

Republicans in my day wanted to cut Social Security and welfare. Then they went after Medicare. Now they claim to be for it. The people who are against Obamacare now will support it 20 years from now and will be against something else. We all need Medicare and we all need health insurance, but we all don’t get what we need.

.

Corporations and their CEO’s make billions and millions of dollars. And what do they talk about? Cutting the wages for the workingman. They talk about cutting healthcare benefits for the workingman. Cut, cut, cut for the people who can’t afford to pay politicians.

.

What’s on my mind is football. What is the price of our children? Take Knott County Central and one of its players suffering the third brain bleed of the season. You know what his future is now? Passing out and going into seizures so bad he can’t go to school by himself. I think the child ought to file a lawsuit. Someone should have to pay the piper.

.

I watched Donald Trump say what he said about the NFL. First and foremost, I do not believe in his type of language. I do believe in his thoughts. Anybody who doesn’t believe in standing for the flag and the national anthem needs to get their hind-end to North Korea and stay with that dictator. This is horrible and it shows what type of shape this country is in. It is a sad time. One of these days when the Good Lord comes back, all of this foolishness will be over. Then we’ll see who is laughing and who is crying.

.

Donald Trump truly is an evil genius. With Twitter and campaign rallies as his only weapons he is accomplishing what King George III, Lord Liverpool, Geronimo, Robert E. Lee, Crazy Horse, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Hitler, Hirohito, Mussolini, Stalin, Khrushchev, Kim II-sung, Castro, Ho Chi Minh, Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, and Osama bin Laden always hoped for but never achieved — the destruction of the United States of America. You’ve got to hand it to Trump. Never before has one man been able to divide a country’s people and threaten its future like he has. Let’s give credit where credit is due. This man is awesome when it comes to sowing the seeds of hate, division and the eventual destruction of this country that all of us love.

.

To my good friend’s neighbor: You’re the one living with a husband who was hitting on your baby sister while you were in the shower pregnant with your first child. And now you act like you all have such great morals? Chew on that awhile.

.

To one certain blonde in the city of Whitesburg: I would love for you to quit fooling around with that boy. You’re wasting your life. Sister, you don’t need a boy, you need a man. I’ve been checking you out now for about two years, and I believe I could flat tear you up. So if you want a man, come outside. I’ll wave at you and let you know I’m the one.

.

A certain woman talks about her son’s wife like a dog for messing around with a guy from a trailer park. Well how about her husband and the cake baker and the neighbor? She should think about that before she talks about others.

.

A chef wishing he could poison President Trump? What is this world coming to? Don’t these people see that we are America; that we’re trying to be great again? It’s sad to say that a great man like our president is being threatened by some cook running his mouth and saying he would serve the president hemlock. Personally, I don’t like that man at all and I’ll never watch his show again. I thought he was pretty cool at first, going all over the world. I say God bless America. We’ve got a good president in there. It’s just stupid the way these people talk about our president. Mr. Trump is doing an excellent job. Get off his back, you SOB’s.

.

Friends and neighbors, on September 16, 2017, the fun at Campbell’s Branch School was exceptionally wonderful. Great music by William Caudill’s band. Smoke was really on the floor. One lady danced one of her shoes off and kept on dancing. Thanks, ladies, you did a great job putting everything together. Big crowd. Remember next year.

.

Can this high school football season in Letcher County hurry and get over with? Our two high schools are going to go 0 and 20. Very embarrassing.

.

I think the state highway department should maintain the Craft’s Branch Loop part of Bottom Fork Road instead of leaving it to the county, because about all of the Bottom Fork people use that road to fly in and out. It’s traveled more by Bottom Fork people than anybody. Thank you.

.

It’s a shame when two ‘good Samaritans’ from Letcher County try to take credit for assisting with the tragedy that happened in Florida by using a government vehicle and government gas that was paid for by the taxpayers. They only did that to try to get a vote for a certain candidate. Thank you.

.

What’s on my mind is a certain young man who was raised in a certain religion in which his mother was a very strict member and his daddy called the word. All of a sudden he got into fame and fortune and I tip my hat. He’s done well and has about anything he wants. But he doesn’t have peace, because he doesn’t have the Lord. The reason I say that is because I was raised just like he was.

.

Two years ago I asked a certain lady to go riding with me and she said she would like to do that. I ran into her in a restaurant where she works and she said she’d still like to do that. Please, don’t wait around until you’re married or you’re too old and look back in regret for not getting to go on this ride. I think it would be a good one. You need to respond.

.

I was looking of Facebook recently and saw where a couple of local officials were trying to make themselves look good by loading some diapers. If you looked really close they were using an official vehicle with official tags on it. They were probably using official taxpayer money to buy the gas. They were doing nothing but making a political point to try to help themselves. They should have hidden the tag, though. Everybody caught onto it. What a mess we have with politicians in Letcher County. The people had better wake up. Look all around you. Every other county but ours is prospering while ours keeps going downhill with the same old politicians and the same old lies.

.

What’s the deal with so many child molesters? And what have they done with that certain boy, is what I would like to know. Is he going to get slapped on the back or what? He needs put in jail to show him it’s not right to fool around and take advantage of a 14- or 15-year-old little girl. Why has this not been in the paper or part of any other news? Thank you.

.

Apparently I must have missed the cutoff for Speak Your Piece last week, but I’ll just say it again: I think it’s a shame you can’t go anywhere these days without having to put up with a dog. The last two times I’ve gone out to eat in a restaurant I’ve had to eat with a dog. If I wanted to eat with a dog I would eat down in the dog lot with mine. People, they are dogs. Leave them at the house.

.

I don’t understand why grown adults can’t have a conversation without cursing. I’ve been to two busi- ness places today and couldn’t talk to the employees without them cursing. I think that is very disrespectful and it looks really bad on the business. Thank you.

.

I’m calling about the helicopters that are flying around and cutting down all this pot. I don’t understand why they couldn’t take that money and donate it to the Letcher County government to help it pay to cut the weeds beside the roads. People in Letcher County are not interested in having helicopters flying around and spending thousands of dollars to get a plant here and a plant there. We would much rather have our weeds cut from beside the roads for safety purposes. Marijuana is not hurting anyone. Thank you.

.

To a certain DJ: I wait all week to hear the Four O’clock Polka, so when you hit the schnozz, as you so rarely do, proceed a pace and play the polka. Don’t waddle off and start talking and then give a traffic report and then talk some more and then play a public service announcement. Play the polka. People want their Four O’clock Polka at four, not at 4:04. You must be related to that guy that delivers the Lexington paper. Get it together, man.

.

Mary had a little Lamb its fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went the Lamb was sure to go. He followed her to school one day, it wasn’t even in the rule. It made the children laugh and play to have a lamb at school. And when the rules all changed one day, illegal it became to bring the Lamb of God to school or even speak His Name. Every day got worse and worse and days turned into years. Instead of hearing children laugh we heard gunshots and tears. What must we do to stop the crime that’s in our schools today? Let’s let the Lamb come back to school and teach our kids to pray.
