October 13 — A free Healthy Baby Workshop will be held at 12 p.m. at the Letcher County Heath Department, 115 East Main Street in Whitesburg by KIDS NOW Plus Program, KRCC Regional Prevention. Activities include information about having a healthy baby. All women attending will receive free baby items and there will be door prizes. Lunch is provided. All pregnant women and those up to two months postpartum in Letcher and surrounding counties are invited to attend. No registration is required. October 14 — The Gospel Redeemers and several other religious groups will sing at the Little Shepherd Amphitheatre Gospel Fest, Saturday night, Oct. 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. Admission is free. Food booths will be open. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Masonic Lodge in downtown Jenkins, off of Hwy. 23 at street #3086. October 14 — Benny Jones Band will play at Country Cabin II in Norton, Va., from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children 2 to 11 years old.

October 14-15 — The Wise Fall Fling will take place all day in downtown Wise, Va., and will feature traditional music ranging from banjos to bagpipes.

October 21 — Carcassonne Community Center will host a square dance from 6 to 9 p.m. Concessions and souvenirs are available. Adults $5, students 6-18 $3. October 28 — A reunion of Little Cowan Grade School faculty, students, descendants and friends will begin at 6 p.m. at the Shriners Building in Whitesburg. The Shriners will serve barbeque with sides, also chicken. $10 will be charged per person to cover the cost of food and the building. Those attending are invited to bring a side dish. Checks can be written to Patsy Adams, 100 Donnie Banks Rd., Whitesburg, Ky. 41858, and receipts will be sent to those who enclose an address. Those planning to attend should notify Patsy Adams in advance so the amount of food needed can be known.
