Deputies find 1 of 2 suspects hiding behind big Teddy bear

The Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department has arrested a Neon man on drug and weapons charges, and another with a weapons charge after serving a warrant at Quillen Fork.

Sgt. Alicia Congleton said she and Capt. Barry Engle on Monday accompanied a state Probation and Parole officer to the home of Randall Johnson at Quillen Fork to serve a warrant for contempt of court. When they arrived, said Congleton, a handgun was lying in plain sight on a table. Congleton said Engle then searched the trailer and found McLemore hiding behind a large Teddy bear in a bedroom, and Johnson was also hiding in the residence.

Congleton said they found six packages of the highly addictive stimulant crystal methamphetamine, “strips” of the anti-addiction drug Suboxone and cash in McLemore’s pockets.

Both men were charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. McLemore was also charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and promoting contraband.

Both suspects are being held in the Letcher County Jail on contempt of court charges.
