Services set for Goldie Sparks

Funeral services for Goldie Mae Smith Sparks, 90, of Payne Gap, will be held Thursday, October 12, at Carty Funeral Home in Jenkins. Burial will be in the Heidelburg Cemetery.

Born in Heidelburg, she was a daughter of the late Neal and Carrie Anderson Smith and the widow of Charlie Sparks.

Mrs. Sparks was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Spencer, and a brother, Johnnie Smith.

She died October 10 at Letcher Manor Nursing Home in Whitesburg.

Mrs. Sparks was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star, where she held the office of Martha for many years, and was a member of the Order of Ambassador for several years.

Surviving are a daughter, Leada Hall of Payne Gap; three grandchildren, Thomas Cook of Jenkins, Cassie Takieddin of Fairfax, Va., and Lara Hayes and Shelly of Lexington; five brothers, Junior Smith, Harold Smith, Marvin Smith, Charles Smith and William Smith; a sister, Alma Ruth of Ohio; seven greatgrandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
