I live on U.S. 23 over in Pound, Virginia, and I have a lot of good friends who live over in Letcher County. The Pound cops, who more or less are kids, are up to new antics when it comes to Kentucky people coming across on the four-lane. They’ve equipped their cops’ personal vehicles with lights and sirens. One is a black four-door Dodge with radar and all. I’ve never seen anything like this. And for them to say that you all are not targeted is a bunch of baloney. We used to have good cops, but now they are kids. So beware of the black four-door Dodge that will be parked at the bottom of the mountain, back in that hole, just waiting on you all to come across. From daylight to dark all you see is their lights flashing while they pull over people from Kentucky. This is your old friend in Virginia giving you a heads-up. Thank you.

.

Concerning the black people crying about black lives matter: What about the cops that killed the white people? In 2015 there were 497 whites killed by cops and 259 blacks. In 2016, there were 466 whites killed and 233 blacks. So far in 2017, there have been 335 whites killed and 168 blacks killed by cops. This is all according to the Washington Post. So quit whining about black people getting killed by the police. Quit running from the cops and quit acting stupid and you won’t get killed.

.

What I think is the most stupid thing anybody can do is go to the gas station, get your gas, then leave your vehicle sit there blocking other people so they can’t get gas. Instead of acting like you own the gas pumps, move your vehicle out of the way and let other get in there.

.

The estimated cost to taxpayers for Vice President Mike Pence to fly a C-32 from Las Vegas to Indianapolis and then to Los Angeles Sunday was $242,500. The purpose of the trip was so that he could briefly attend and then promptly leave an Indianapolis Colts game citing the ongoing NFL players’ protest of police shooting African-Americans and show his disdain for the United States Constitution, in particular this time, the First Amendment.

.

Come on, dude, you can’t tell me you wouldn’t be angry if your son didn’t get a trophy. You say winning is everything; well, that’s just quoting Vince Lombardi. Winning is great, but it’s not everything. The gracious loser is sometimes just as respected, and maybe even little more, than a cocky winner. So don’t tell me you would be OK if your son didn’t get a trophy.

.

I see Kenny Anderson running for jailer. Who’s backing him?

Your prince might be closer than you think, sweet lady, but he’s definitely on no white horse. That’s for sure.

.

Why did the mainstream media and the people in Washington not raise a big fuss when the Justice Department under Eric Holder and Barack Obama sold 4,500 AK-47’s to the drug cartel?

.

To a certain person: You are not a teacher, and your paycheck should tell you that.

.

The word for the day is apathy. Here’s an example: It’s October 4, four days into the fall ‘no burn’ period. I am in Neon and there’s someone burning their trash across the street from the fire department. Nobody cares.

.

It looks like our governor, our attorney general, and a bunch of our state senators and representatives want to legalize marijuana. Now we need for our representatives and our senators from here in the mountains to vote yes for the legalization of marijuana. Get it done. I can tell you something else about this situation, and that is there are some really rich people who want to try to corner the marijuana market. They are going to do this by getting patents on different strains of marijuana. This has to be stopped or poor people won’t be able to get on the making of a lot of the money. Anti-monopoly laws are going to have to be created to stop people from doing these things.

.

You gotta love those whacky family values Republicans. Representative Tim Murphy, who has always strongly favored big government intrusion into women’s private lives by controlling their reproductive systems, tried to get the woman he was having sexual relations with behind his wife’s back to have an abortion. This would make an entertaining television show.

.

I can’t buy moonshine anywhere. My next door neighbor won’t sell it to me; the people out in Arizona won’t sell it to me; my neighbors won’t sell it to me, and my family won’t sell it to me. Something is wrong.

.

It’s amazing how a certain man in his thirties is fooling around with a 50-year-old woman. That’s right; he knows how to use this woman. He’s used her once before, two years ago, for money.

.

I was just reading Speak Your Piece and saw the comment about the Hogg murder. Well, what’s happened with a couple of other cases? We’ve not heard anything else about those cases. And what do you want to bet we won’t hear anything else about those cases?

(While there has been no news to report in either of the cases you mentioned, both cases remain active.)

Brothers and sisters, a Christian brother is under conviction this morning. I have to say this: Some preachers and some in the congregation would like to see me buried in a hickory coffin so they could hear me go to hell popping and cracking. In my defense I have this to say: The Bible says to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. I have done this and have come to the conclusion that maybe the preachers are wrong, some of them, and Jesus is right. They will stand up there and tell you this and tell you that and then pass the pot around. Thank you, dear Lord Jesus, for my brothers and sisters. Have you seen any miracles in your church? I guess the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus don’t do any miracles. The Holy Spirit will come into your church if you will let it and get the wolves out of the pulpit. Fifty percent of you are good people, but this show and tell over who has the nicest clothes doesn’t cut it. You can wash the outside of a cup, but the inside might still be filthy.

.

To a fellow driving who was driving a motorcycle on Pine Creek: You need to stop making your deals out in the middle of the road.

.

It looks like it’s going to be a good time for everybody on October 28. Little Cowan is going to have a reunion for the old tworoom schoolhouse. It will be held at the Shriners building and the cost will be $10 per person, which will cover the cost of food and help pay on the building. Please call 606-633-4560 or 606-633- 5019 for more information. Thanks, and I hope to see every one of you there.

.

I loaned some people a solar panel to try to help them out when they had no electricity. Half of Knott County and half of Letcher County know all about it.

.

To a certain blonde: Why are you fooling around with that nasty no-good punk from Doty Creek when you could be with a real man? He is nothing but trash and you know it.

.

I left a statement about certain boy in last week’s Speak Your Piece. I will get even with him for destroying a certain blonde-haired girl’s life. The girl I know personally. To Judge/Executive Jim Ward, Sheriff Danny Webb, or Kentucky State Police. At a certain location on Pine Creek, people are in a trailer making meth and destroying lives. Little children are present and a whole parking lot full of people are there every day. Thank you.

.

After having an accident in Clintwood, Virginia, I realize that I can drive over to Clintwood faster than I can get a phone call through to the sheriff’s office over there to get a statement. I can drive to any insurance agent I have quicker than I can get a phone call through over there. I hope all computers melt down before dark.

.

What’s on my mind are the Letcher County workers who are still laid off. I’ve been there; I was with the Letcher County garbage men at one time and I know what it is to be out of a job. I also know what it is to be lied to. The question I have is this: Are the magistrate still drawing full pay? If so, why?

(Letcher County’s five magistrates do still draw their full salaries. Why? Because state law requires they be paid.)

What’s wrong, cat killer, has the cat got your tongue?

.

We live in a country where guns are more important than people’s lives and our president lashes out at hurricane victims from his golf resort? God bless America.

. Good jurors will turn loose all defendants in marijuana cases.

.

I would like to give a shout-out to the boys on Bill Moore Branch for such good moonshine they produced on Labor Day. We’ll be back around Thanksgiving to pick up a few more gallons. Keep up the good work.

.

So you believe in manmade global warming? Well, would you please explain to me why the temperature drops so drastically as soon as the sun goes down?

.

Your worst enemies are among your best friends?

.

I have been many places in my life and have traveled near and far. Regardless of what my mind and my eyes say, my heart and my spirit remained here in the Appalachians, where my roots are. Nowhere have I seen such a unique experience of both freedom of speech and freedom of expression — which are synonymous but not necessarily the same — as Speak Your Piece. It’s a wonderful opportunity for people. So be proud of where you are from and where you came from. Thank you.

.

Think before you vote for candidates for the office of Letcher County Jailer. Certain candidates may need to be under the jail instead of running the jail.

.

I’m getting tired of fake news, so when I want real news I listen to Speak Your Pieces on WMMT-FM with Wiley Quixote. Wiley Quixote and Speak Your Piece are the most truthful news you’ll get.

.

If you want to hear real news, listen to ‘Bird’s Eye View from Georgia’ on WMMT on Wednesday nights. God bless you.

.

Concerning the man who called in a couple of weeks ago and said no one has seen the streets of heaven: Well, I have been there, and the guy who called that in has never been wounded or hurt bad enough. I woke up after two weeks in the hospital and I was really ticked off because I had to return to place. I wish I had stayed where I was — on the Streets of Gold. Thank you.

.

I recently attended a meeting of the Letcher County Tourism Committee at the Letcher County Extension Office. There was a big turnout, including the mayor of Jenkins. Missing, however, were the mayor and city council members of Whitesburg, the entire Letcher County Fiscal Court, many of our business leaders, and other county officials. If we’re going to do anything in Letcher County, people need to show up.

.

To the person who asked why you should air your grievances in Speak Your Piece when it doesn’t change anything: I disagree. A lot of things do and have changed; we just don’t hear about it. I don’t know of any other newspaper that lets us air our grievances like this. Thank you, Speak Your Piece, for letting us do this.

(You are very welcome.)

Blah blah blah. The Democrats are going to pieces just because they can run their mouths about our Second Amendment. Sure, this guy in Las Vegas was an idiot possessed by Satan himself. Do they know how easy this device used to murder these people is to bootleg? Somebody is going to make a million dollars when they take it off the market.

.

Does anyone know what happened to the little gas station here at the edge of Pound? It looks like it’s closed.

.

In response to a comment in Speak Your Piece about what someone says they saw at the Mountain Heritage Festival: The caller was absolutely right. I heard the same thing. The guy that was raising Cain is a politician who was campaigning for office. I don’t know what his problem was and I don’t care, but the way he was acting in front of the guy’s little boy was pure evil. He also grabbed the guy’s arm while trying to provoke him to fight, but the guy ignored him, I am sure to keep from scaring the little boy. Later on that day I heard him say he was a deacon on the church. He didn’t act like a deacon to me. Furthermore, I would like to know what the Mountain Heritage Festival or any other festival has to do with politics. Everywhere you go you see politics. For me, I know who I am going to vote for and they are not going to change my mind one way or the other. Is politics the only thing these festivals have to make a dollar from? If so, they need to quit having these festivals. Let the politicians have their own forum. The reason we have nothing in this area is because of politics and I am sick of politicians.

.

Letcher County has lost a wonderful person. His name was Billy Carl Ingram. He was 45 years old, and if you didn’t know him you missed out on knowing a special person. I got to know Bill in 1985. We fished together, hunted for ginseng together, and played a lot of pool and a lot of ballgames and horseshoes. His laughter and his smile were special. My condolences go to the Ingram family. When we moved into the hollow they didn’t know us but they treated us like family. Billy may be gone but he’ll always live on with me.

.

If a person can’t live on a million dollars and pay a few taxes he is bad off.

.

Why don’t those stupid Republicans in Washington understand the word ‘no’? The majority of the American people want and need affordable health care. No! We do not want to repeal and replace. If they were honest they would be expressing their feeling honestly and saying, ‘let us put the screws to you poor and middle class people and I want you to smile and say, ‘I like it’.’ Do they think we have the word, stupid stamped on our foreheads? I was just wondering if maybe we could get those Republicans an audition on Saturday Night Live. They could play the parts of the cone heads.

.

To the drunken ex-politician with the obnoxious public photos: You are a disgrace to your community and place of employment. Move to Florida. You have done enough damage here.

.

This is the Harlan County man. I just want to say what a fine man President Trump is along with his comments about these NFL football players that have those million dollar contracts, and will not stand for our national anthem. President Trump is 100 percent right. These S.O.B.’s should be fired and these owners should and will lose their fans and millions of dollars if they don’t fire these foolish and dishonorable players. As for me, the Harlan County man, I will not watch an NFL game until they stop this foolishness and stop those players from dishonoring our nation and flag and veterans. When I turn my TV on to watch a football game, I don’t want to hear or see a political statement about anything. I just want to see my team play ball. God bless President Trump and the U.S.A. Signed, Harlan County Man.

.

Can’t you find anything else to talk about but my wife when you go hunting? That’s the reason we went downtown. Because of you running your mouth. Looks like we’re going to go again. Tired of telling her to ask for what we’re suppose to have anyway.

.

To hell with any American citizen who wants to dishonor the flag of the United States of America. If any S.O.B. wants to abolish the history and heritage of the USA and reestablish some kind of a ‘mockeryof democracy’ type of government, then let him or her go back to where their ancestors came from — if he is not satisfied here in the USA. Also, to hell with ‘organized football’ if they are going to bring political programming into the sportsman’s arena. Sports should not be thought of as an industry anyway.

.

I am so thankful that President Trump has spoken out against the Iran agreement, and he does not need to apologize to the heathen Iranians. Also, the rocket man needs to stop shooting his little bottle rockets before he is wiped off the map. Furthermore, President Trump needs to keep standing for the American people and not the coward Republicans. Senator McConnell needs to support Roy Moore. We the American people want our nation back from both messed up parties, the Democrat’s stupidity and global warming lies, and the abortion murders, and the spineless Republicans that have no backbone to stand for the American people against the Democrats. Our nation has been sick for a long time because we have had no leadership. We the American people have elected President Trump to end the tyranny of both parties’ foolishness. America can be great again, when America turns back to the true and living God and stops listening to the Democrat devils and the Republican devils. America needs to repent of all the evil before God rains fire out of heaven on the ungodly.

.

Why does the air around the Whitesburg Post Office smell like pure sewage? You can actually taste it — you certainly can’t breathe the stuff. It’s in city limits, right? What is polluting the air so badly there? It’s horrible.

.

Hello, hi and howdy, folks! Did you miss me? Well I missed all of you. Well, well, well, it seems that the powers that be have finally caught up with old slick Rick Pitino and when the FBI gets involved, you know that it has to be serious. I guess the G-Men had to tell Rick P. what FBI stand for. You can forget basketball ignoramus! I don’t feel a damn bit sorry for him, Athletic Director Tom Jurich, or the former university president, James ‘Diamond Jim’ Ramsey. Hey you UK fans, I hear you snickering, but don’t you dare laugh. This is only the tip of the iceberg. They’ve been talking a lot about the one and done system, so don’t be surprised if they add Coach Calipari’s name to the list as well. Back to slick Rick, he’s had scandal after scandal, and as they used to say in those old episodes of The Sopranos, ‘He’s gotta go!’ I guess being paid the highest coach in college basketball ($7.76 million for 2017 alone) made him think that he was untouchable — not! I hope that the hammer drops on Adidas and Nike and whoever else is part of this mess. I hope that the one and done system is done away with and we begin to start on leveling the playing field, or in this case, the basketball court. They took what was intended to promote school spirit and corrupted it, perverted it by turning it into a dirty, manipulative, sleazy business where the coaches are paid more money than the whole administration of their colleges and universities. Millions upon millions of dollars are made from merchandising off the backs and sweat of young men and women who are heavily penalized if somebody pays for their lunch. It’s a shame that in Kentucky we put more of an emphasis on athletics than we do academics. It’s a shame that we pay these college coaches millions of dollars while we have school systems right here in Kentucky where six kids have to share one book, where teachers have to come out of their own pockets to buy school supplies, and the same said teachers have to worry about the status of their pensions. It just goes to show you how butt-backward we are in Kentucky. So no, I don’t feel sorry for Rick Pitino. Adios and bye-bye Bambino. And on your way out the door, take the football coach, Bobby Petrino. Until the next time, I’m on the inside looking out.

.

I would like to tell County Judge Jim Ward that if he hadn’t wasted the county’s money we would have had money to see us through. If it wasn’t for Wayne Fleming we would really be hurting. I hate to see him retire. Thank you, Wayne, for everything you have done. And you’re not even in my district.

.

These are scary times, people, and we owe should all be thanking Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee for being the first top Republican Party official to warn the people of the life-threatening dangers Donald Trump has put our country in. When an official of Corker’s stature — he’s the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee — warns us that the actions of Trump, who is a member of Corker’s own political party and the candidate Corker supported openly in last November’s election, could set the United States ‘on the path to World War III’ it is time that serious action be taken toward removing Trump from the office of president. The lives of millions of men, women and children here and abroad are at stake.

.

This is Thursday, October 12, and I already know what’s going to be on the front page of next week’s Mountain Eagle. It will be ‘Hogg murder trial postponed again.’ Nowhere but in Letcher County.
