Highway dept. presenting 5K run/walk

Walkers and runners who love haunted houses can sign up for “The Hills Have Eyes,” a 5K run/walk sponsored by Kentucky Department of Highways District 12 on Saturday, October 28, at the Pikeville Airport.

Registration starts at 6 p.m. The race starts at 7 p.m. at the top of the hill. Participation is $15 per person for those who pre-register, $20 at the event. Groups of 10 or more pay $15 each even if not pre-registered. Children 13 and younger pay only $10. All proceeds go to the Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign, an annual statewide fundraising effort that supports eight primary charities. All money stays in Kentucky.

“ We love a haunted house,” said Tina Kirk, KECC coordinator at District 12. “We wanted to combine the fun of a haunted house with a 5K to give people a different experience. We are excited that Michael Myers, various clowns, some zombies, a few disembodied chainsaws, Freddy Krueger, Chuckie, Jason Voorhees, and Scream have agreed to assist us, waiting in the shadows to greet the runners and walkers as they make their way around the hill.”

All participants receive a medal. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

For more information and to pre-register, contact Kirk at 606-433-7791 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. weekdays (Highway District 121), or register online at https://aptiming.com/ race/TheHillsHaveEyes5K .
