Lady Cougars complete outstanding season

The Letcher County Central High School Lady Cougars fell in three sets — 25-16, 25-12, and 25-11 — in their November 3 match with South Warren High School in the opening round of the Girls’ Volleyball State Tournament, held at Valley High School in Louisville. South Warren advanced to the Final Four before falling to eventual runner-up Mercy Academy of Louisville. Assumption High School, also of Louisville, is the 2017 champion, defeating Mercy in an all-Catholic school final, three sets to none. The Lady Cougars finish the 2017 season with a won-loss record of 22-10. Letcher Central had a record of 11-1 in the 14th Region and 6-0 in the 53rd District.
