Theft, child porn suspects indicted here

A Neon man has been indicted on charges of sexual abuse and child pornography involving 5-year-old and 6-year-old girls.

Terry Baker, 44, of Fairview Lane, Neon, is among five people indicted by a Letcher County grand jury this week. The charges against Baker stem from events that allegedly occurred between Jan. 1, 2007 and Nov. 7, 2008.

The grand jury charged Baker with three counts of first-degree sex abuse for allegedly subjecting a child 5 years of age to sexual contact. It also charged Baker with one count of use of minor in a sexual performer involving a 6-year-old child.

Kentucky State Police Detective Vicki Day testified in the case.

In other indictments last week, Dakota Bates, 22, of Colson, was charged with theft by unlawful taking in the July 22 theft of $1,293.43 in cash from Family Dollar Store at Isom.

Security camera video from that day showed a young man enter the store, climb over the counter, grab money from the unlocked safe and run away.

In addition to the theft charge, Bates is charged with being a first-degree persistent felony offender, meaning he has been convicted of two or more felonies in the past.

Others indicted, and the charges against them are as follows.

• Ryan Eldridge, 30, of Cane Branch in Whitesburg, was charged with first degree possession of a controlled substance, second offense, for possessing suspected methamphetamine; second-degree possession of an unspecified controlled substance, classified as a Schedule I or Schedule II drug; third-degree possession of an unspecified controlled substance classified as a Schedule IV or V drug; possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly being in possession of a syringe; driving on a DUI suspended license, second offense; failure to register transfer of a motor vehicle after buying a 2006 Ford; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, second offense; failure of owner to maintain required insurance, first offense; expired registration plates; expired registration receipt; and failure to produce insurance card.

The incident occurred on Aug. 16. Capt. Barry Engle of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department testified in the case.

• Alexis Bentley, 25, of Treetop Road, Seco, was charged with one count of theft by failure to make required disposition of property. She allegedly obtained a 2017 Chevrolet Impala from Terry Back, agreeing to return it when she picked up items from her grandmother. The indictment alleges she kept the vehicle and used it as her own.

The incident allegedly occurred on July 16. Back testified in the case.

• Jeffery Ison, 40, of Pine Creek, was charged with one count of second-degree burglary for allegedly entering the home of Ida Darlene Baker on Aug. 10, and stealing a Warm Morning heating stove, a bathroom sink, and a vanity cabinet.

Baker testified in the case.

• Michael Newsome, 53, of Deane, was charged with one count of receiving stolen property and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Newsome is accused of receiving, retaining, or disposing of six saddles, bridles, tools, tack gear, padding, four shotguns, four black powder guns, and a rake, knowing the items had been stolen from Daniel Isaac.

The incident allegedly occurred on or about July 20. Capt. Barry Engle of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department testified in the case.
