Man, 80, was missing Monday

An 80- year- old Blair Branch man missing for 10 hours was located on Bee Tree Branch Monday night.

According to Pine Mountain Search and Rescue (PMSCR), L.C. Adams, who is nearly blind, had been taking his daily walk up the hollow with two dogs and didn’t return home when expected. Family members said he had done that before when he became tired or unable to find his way, but he had always sat down on the edge of the road and waited for them to pick him up. When they went to look for him Monday, they were unable to find him.

Neighbors and family members searched for him until nearly dark, and then called 911, a news release from PMSAR said. Kentucky State Police notified search and rescue at 6:52 p.m. and about two hours later, a family member found one of the dogs more than a mile away on Bee Tree Branch. The family member found Adams in the creek nearby, where he had tried to get water and had fallen.

The two hollows are on opposite sides of a mountain and are connected by a mining road. Adams told rescuers he had been unable to see where he was going in the dark, and took the wrong road.

Adams suffered minor injuries and was taken to Whitesburg hospital for evaluation.
