‘Storybook Stroll and Shop’ debuts

Event offering rewards to those who shop locally

The Letcher County Tourism is helping to organize the 2017 “Christmas Storybook Stroll and Shop.” The event runs through Saturday (December 9) in Letcher County.

This family event is sponsored by eight locally owned, small businesses in hopes to encourage those who live in Letcher County and surrounding counties to shop locally this holiday season.

The event is designed to allow families to visit and stroll through participating stores as the storybook, “Snowmen at Christmas,” is debuted. Participants are encouraged to begin at Deana’s Designs, located in Dry Fork Plaza. From there, the pages of the book that are displayed inside each store may be followed until the end of the book is reached — at Pine Mountain Grill & Gifts, located off Highway 119 South at Pine Mountain Junction in Whitesburg.

The first 300 children to participate in the event will be given the opportunity to gather pieces to a free, “very special” snowman necklace. Each store will have a different piece of the necklace, so once a child has visited every participating store, that child will have a complete necklace to wear all season long.

As part of the event, stores will offer exclusive specials during the week to participating children and their parents.

“We are excited to partner with local businesses to bring a Christmas Storybook Stroll and Shop to our community,” said Missy Matthews, chairman of the Letcher County Tourism Commission. “We hope that this event will be enjoyed by the whole family, as they make their way through the story, visit with local business owners and experience the specials they have to offer.”
