LCC girls sport 10-8 mark

The Letcher Central Lady Cougars (10-8) host Central (Va.) tonight (Wednesday) in a game rescheduled from January 17. LCCHS will visit Perry County Central tomorrow evening, Jan. 25. The Lady Cougars will host Floyd Central Jan. 29, and then visit Hazard Jan. 31.

The Letcher Central Lady Cougars had a three-game winning streak snapped in this past Monday evening in the 57-36 loss to visiting Knott County Central.

The Lady Cougars struggled with Knott County’s defensive pressure all evening and their turnovers prevented them from a consistent offensive effort.

LCCHS stayed within striking distance through much of the first half — trailing 16-10 after the first quarter and 28-23 at the half.

LCCHS, now 10-8 and 4-1 in district action, was led in scoring by Brooklyn Collins’s 12 points. Camryn Parks scored eight points and Brooke Bates chipped in with seven. Emma Maggard finished with six points and Mackenzie Craft with two. Alyssa Franklin scored one point.

Harlan 54

The Letcher Central Lady Cougars, behind junior center Emma Maggard’s game-high 26 points and 14 rebounds, defeated the visiting 8-9 Harlan Lady Greendragons 65-54 January 20.

Mackenzie Craft scored 14 points for 10-7 LCCHS. Loren Boggs chipped in with 10 points. Camryn Parks added eight points and Brooklyn Collins scored five points. Brooke Bates finished with two points.
