Suzanne Howard dies at 81

Funeral services for Suzanne “Sue” Howard, 81, were held February 2 at the Mayking Baptist Church. Burial was in the Camp Nathanael Cemetery at Emmalena.

Born in Philadelphia, Penn., she was a daughter of the late Gus and Anna Vansice Hornberger. She died January 30 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard.

Mrs. Howard was the widow of Robert “Bob” Howard Sr., and the mother of the late David Howard and Matthew Howard. She was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters, Charles Hornberger, Kay Jacobs and Margaret Humphreys.

She and her husband were Letcher County representative as missionaries at Camp Nathanael. She was a member of the Mayking Baptist Church, an associate member of the Happy Bible Church, and a member of the Victorious Women Group.

She enjoyed traveling, cooking, playing piano, and being the dining room hostess at Camp Nathanael.

Surviving are two sons, Phillip Howard and wife Barbie of West Grove, Penn., and Robert Howard Jr. and wife Donna of Whitesburg.; a daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” and husband Richard of Hagerstown, Md.; nine grandchildren, Jamie Lee, Jillian, Brandon, Matthew, Jamie Lynn, Sherrie, Bryan, Trevor, and Krissy; three step-grandchildren, Shane, Susie and Shannon; nine great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Piper, Serenity, Riley, Gunner, Brayden, Colby, Dylan and Tony; and seven step-great-grandchildren, Waylon, Michael, Jazmyn, Jenna, Sean, Taylor and Paige.
