Rites held for David Bates

David Scott Bates, 35, died July 24 at his home in Whitesburg Surviving are his mother, Misty Brooks Slone; two sisters, Ashley Caitlin Slone and Taylor Slone, both of Whitesburg; his stepfather, Dean Slone; and a grandfather, Paul Brook. Funeral services for Mr. Bates were held July 29 at Letcher Funeral Home in Whitesburg.

Grant will help pay for new signs in city

The Community Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky (CEDIK) has awarded a $5,000 grant to be shared among eight coalition partners, and will fund “walkability and pedestrian access improvements” in Whitesburg.
