2 charged with taking stolen railroad steel to scrap yard

Preliminary hearings are scheduled for today (Wednesday) for two men charged with stealing railroad steel.

David K. Hall, 28, of 80 Hatfield Drive, Whitesburg, and Dwayne Anthony Caudill, 32, of 1450 Lost Creek Road, Hazard, were arrested Nov. 14 by Kentucky State Police Trooper Brandon Thomas after Hall and Caudill were seen unloading railroad steel at Mitchell Wright’s scrap yard at Isom.

Both men were charged with theft by unlawful taking. Caudill was also served a warrant for a first-degree criminal mischief charge in which he is accused of damaging an apartment he was renting from Raymond Brown on June 16, 2009.

According to court documents, the total weight of the railroad steel was 1,600 pounds. A CSX railroad detective said the steel was stolen.

Hall and Caudill are being held in the Letcher County Jail. Bond is set at $1,000 cash for each man.
