29 file to run for council, board seats

Twenty-eight candidates beat the 4 p.m. deadline Tuesday to file to run for nonpartisan city and local offices in the November 8 general election.

Those who filed will be seeking city council seats in Jenkins, Fleming-Neon and Whitesburg, or seats on the Letcher County School Board, and the Letcher County Soil Conservation District. Two seats on the Jenkins Independent Board of Education are also scheduled to become vacant next January 1, but no candidates filed to fill them.
