617 Letcher County students benefit from KHEAA student aid programs




Letcher County students received $1,220,920 in student financial aid administered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) during the 2005-2006 academic year. Of that amount, Letcher County students received:

+ 403 Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarships (KEES) totaling $475,470.

+ 346 College Access Program (CAP) Grants totaling $474,675.

+ 101 Kentucky Tuition Grants (KTG) totaling $242,284.

+ four Early Childhood Development Scholarships totaling $3,682.

+ four Teacher Scholarships totaling $15,000.

+ one Osteopathic Medicine Scholarship totaling $9,809.

In addition to state aid programs, KHEAA and its sister agency, The Student Loan People, administer the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) to help Kentucky students pay higher education expenses. More than 54,000 borrowers saved more than $40 million in 2006 with zero-fee loans, principal and interest rate reductions and interest and loan forgiveness for teachers, nurses and public service attorneys through the Best in Class, Best in Care and Best in Law programs.
