8 charged with felonies in latest round of indictments

The Letcher Grand Jury has entered nine indictments naming eight people. Those indicted are:

• Daniel Bentley, 35, of 2942 Hwy. 317, Jackhorn, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), use/possession of drug paraphernalia, and first-degree possession of a controlled substance (heroin).

In a second indictment, Bentley is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

Letcher County Sheriff’s Deputy Seth Whitaker testified in the cases.

• Denver Cain Moore, 33, of 18 First St., East Point, who is accused of theft by unlawful taking over $500 or more but under $10,000, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs (first offense, aggravating circumstances), second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree criminal mischief, no/expired registration plates, reckless driving, failure to wear seatbelt, failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance/ security (first offense) and being a second-degree persistent felony offender.

Moore is charged with taking property belonging to the Whitesburg City Fire Department and with damaging a side-by-side owned by the Whitesburg City Fire Department.

Whitesburg Police Officer Michael Garner testified in the case.

• Dennis Walling, 36, of 4552 Thornton Rd., Thornton, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense, methamphetamine), use/possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with physical evidence.

Letcher County Sheriff’s Deputy Seth Whitaker testified in the case.

• Bessie Smith, 42, of 114 Oak Ridge, Eolia, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (second offense, methamphetamine) and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

Whitesburg Police Officer Michael Garner testified in the case.

• Mitchell Potter, 49, of 140 Potter’s Grocery Rd., Ashcamp, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense, methamphetamine) and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Miranda Frazier, 39, of 126 Sizemore Dr., Premium, who is accused of operating a motor vehicle on suspended/ revoked operator’s license, buy/possess drug paraphernalia, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), tampering with physical evidence, first-degree wanton endangerment and being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

• Kimberly Cornett, 35, of 120 Orchard Rd., Whitesburg, who is charged with third-degree inmate assault on corrections officer. She is accused of attempting to cause harm to Luther Tackett, an officer working in the Letcher County Jail, when she hit him with her fist while he was trying to place her in a restraint chair.

Letcher County Jail Officer Angela Fields testified in the case.

• Chester Allen Baker, 47, of 1189 Beaver Dam Rd., Whitesburg, who is charged with second-degree escape.

The grand jury says that Baker, while on home incarceration, left his residence without prior permission.

Letcher County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Fields testified in the case.
