9 named in indictments

The Letcher Grand Jury has named nine people in 12 indictments including a man and a woman charged with complicity to trafficking two grams or more of methamphetamine.

Johnathan B. Asher, 30, also known as Jonathan Asher and John Asher, of 173 Redale Road, Pikeville, is charged with speeding 26 miles per hour over the limit, first-degree complicity with Melissa L. Combs to trafficking in a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm (two grams of more of methamphetamine, first offense), failure to wear seat belt, no/expired registration plate, no/expired Kentucky registration receipt, first-degree fleeing/ evading police, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants (first offense), criminal complicity with Melissa Combs to tampering with physical evidence, operating a motor vehicle without a operator’s license, first-degree criminal complicity with Melissa Combs to wanton endangerment, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

The grand jury says Asher or Combs endangered the general public by throwing multiple used syringes, a fully loaded 357 Magnum pistol, and two bags containing more than four grams of methamphetamine out of the passenger window of Asher’s automobile along Hwy. 588 and along a private road known as The Farm Road while being pursued by Kentucky State Police and the City of Whitesburg Police Department. Asher is also accused of swerving his automobile and attempting to strike the police cruisers of Whitesburg

In a separate indictment, Asher is accused of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and being a second-degree persistent felony offender.

Melissa Lynn Combs, 41, of 209 Broadway St., Hazard, and 3609 Ilex Place, Lexington, is charged with first-degree complicity with Johnathan B. Asher, also known as Jonathan B. Asher, to trafficking in a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm (two grams of more of methamphetamine, first offense), failure to wear seat belt, criminal complicity with Johnathan B. Asher, also known as Jonathan B. Asher, to tampering with physical evidence, use/possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

Others indicted are:

• Randall Keith Johnson, 54, also known as Randle Keith Johnson, of 19 Quillen Fork, Jackhorn, is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants with aggravating circumstance of refusing to submit to blood test (first offense), first-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief and being a firstdegree persistent felony offender.

• The grand jury charges Stephen Cody Simpson, 32, of 113 Gilliam St., Cumberland, with speeding 10 miles per hour over the limit, failure to wear seat belt, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants (second offense) with aggravator of refusing blood test, first-degree possession of controlled substance (Oxycodone, first offense), third-degree possession of controlled substance (Gabapentin, first offense), use/possession of drug paraphernalia, and controlled substance/prescription drug not in proper container.

Accused of flagrant nonsupport of their minor children are:

• Connie Nichole Fugate, 35, of 4134 Lotts Creek, Hazard. She is also charged with being a persistent felony offender.

• Samuel Eugene Adkins, 42, of 1549 KY Hwy. 343, Neon, who is charged in two separate indictments with flagrant nonsupport and being a persistent felony offender.

• Justin Howard Mullins, 36, of 9371 Elkhorn Creek Road, #5, Ash Camp.

Monica Adams, of the Letcher County Division of Child Support Enforcement, testified in the cases.

• Savanna Elizabeth Webb, 32, of Pigeon Court, Trailer #6, Whitesburg, is charged with flagrant nonsupport of her minor children. In a separate indictment she is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failing to appear in Letcher District Court at preliminary hearing on July 17, 2018.

• Natasha Cribb, 45, of 199 4-b Racing Road, Blackey, is charged with bail jumping for failing to appear in Letcher Circuit Court at a pretrial conference on January 16, 2018.
