A celebration for the 90th birthday of Pelma Blair Dixon will be on Saturday, June 9, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Jenkins Public Library. She and her late husband, Dennis, moved to Jenkins in 1956. After 26 years as a second-grade teacher at Burdine Elementary, she retired to become more active in her community. Pelma has served as president of the Retired Teachers and as board member of the libraries, Home Health, Jenkins Hospital, and Senior Citizens. However, her most recent interest has been as a committee member for renovation of the old Jenkins schoolhouse. Great improvements have been made in this effort and she delights in each phase of the renovation. Family, friends, and former students are invited to stop by the library to help her celebrate her birthday. She is looking forward to seeing all of you. No gifts please. If you care to do something in her honor, a donation to the old Jenkins schoolhouse renovation fund or the library would be greatly appreciated.
