Adamses married 70 years

Hershel and Virginia Adams of Claimesa, Calif., celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 14.

He is a former resident of Jeremiah, and she was reared in Goreville, Ill. The couple, who have four daughters, met during World War II when he was in the Army at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, Calif., where she worked in the reception center.

They were married in a Methodist church in San Pedro on May 14, 1944.

After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Adams worked in the lumber industry. The Adamses reared their daughters in Torrance, Calif., and are members of the Narbonne Avenue Baptist Church in Lomita, Calif.
