Adamses welcome new baby girl

Jeremiah

Just a little column on this cold, snowy day; it’s hard to get motivated with this weather.

A happy event I keep forgetting to mention is congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Willie Adams of Isom, who had a little baby girl back in January. The grandparents are Dickie and Dianne Adams; great-grandparents are Bill and Joyce Adams, and Hargis Ison. I’m sorry I do not know Willie’s wife’s family. By now, everyone already knows about the little bundle of joy.

Glad that Genny Caudill of Doty Creek is doing better. She recently spent a couple of days in the hospital just for observation, and everything was okay.

Our sympathy to the family of Ora Whitaker of Linefork, who died since I last wrote. She was a good, old-timey mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who raised a large family of caring children.

They took good care of her during her last years of failing health, taking time to stay with her after their father’s death, putting their own lives on hold during her time of need. Ora will be missed by so many.

Former Letcher County resident Phillip Breeding was to be laid to rest in the Caudill Cemetery at Red Star after funeral services at the Isom Presbyterian Church. He was a son of Corb and Ruby Breeding and our sympathy to his family.

Wilma Whitaker Halcomb, widow of Jake and daughter of late Amos and Nellie Whitaker, died. She hadn’t been well for a while and was a patient at Letcher Manor. Our sympathy to her daughters and their families, and her brothers and all the family.

Final services were held at Dixon Memorial Church on Saturday evening and Sunday, with a large crowd of family and friends in attendance.

It was good to see Reva Adams and Kristi, who came by my shop Saturday. Reva’s fingers were still a little swollen and she gets her stitches and staples out this week. Her grandson Mason, had his third birthday, I think that was Sunday. He’s a cute little feller, and I hope he had a fun day.

Don and Shirley Pratt recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

This past weekend was the meeting time of Mount Olivet Church at Blackey. Sunday, a large crowd attended and it was a good service. James Caudill has been going through treatments, so his system is weak, and he and Nina Mae weren’t supposed to be out in crowds. We missed them and pray he is doing better.

Another little baby boy was born last week to Mallory and Justin Pridemore. Great-grandparents Joann Adams, Lee and Wilma Pridemore, and Dewilla Sparkman are all tickled with the little fellow, as well as the grandparents, parents and his big brother, Weston. Lee hasn’t been feeling well and now has come down with the flu. Hope he’s feeling better this week.

Juanita Adams McCrarey and her daughter, Alma, came up from Somerset and visited with Ivan and Freda Adams and Mom (Coreen), also got to see them for a little while.

Gernie and Callie Croucher’s children met together in Florida recently for a sort of family reunion. They, their spouses and friends all enjoy getting together.

That’s it for now, have a good week.
