Adkins family reunion draws big crowd

Cowan

Jason and Eli Brown spent the weekend with Randy and Eula Brown. They brought a huge watermelon from their garden that was by far the best one we’ve had this season. Jason attended his class reunion and Eli kept the rest of us entertained.

We enjoyed a visit by Stephen Brown on Saturday.

Anna Yonts, Virginia and I visited Glennon and Thelma Ison on Kingdom Come Creek and had a delicious lunch. They have the old Grant Ison homeplace looking really good. We enjoyed watching a family of three deer playing in the backyard.

Laura, Cassie and Landon Harris of Lexington, spent the weekend with Bob and Ramona Caudill. Landon turned two years old on Sunday.

Happy 15th birthday to Michael and Ramona Finchum’s daughter Calla on August 29. She lives in Louisville with her parents and her brother, Forrester. She is very active in dance classes.

The Adkins family and friends reunion was the first weekend of August at Carl and Hubert Hall’s cabin on Sandlick. There were families there from all over the United States. Ramona and Calla Finchum, Regina Crawford and Robert Stines attended. Bennett Combs’s uncle, Roy Adkins, and several of his family were here from Wisconsin. Ivan and Shirley Fields Hall won the prize for 57 years of marriage.

Yvonne Brown Sutphin of Lynchburg, Va., recently won “Best of Show” at the Bedford Arts Center on her painting “Sunrise Over the Ocean”.

Hello to Don and Donna Ison Walker of Naples, Fla. Their daughter Kim is doing better after a year of cancer treatments. Our prayers are with the Walker family.

Robert and Sherrie Brown and sons Jacob, Bradley and Joseph went to Cherokee Lake for a few days before going back to school. They spent one day at Dollywood and enjoyed fishing and swimming.

Linda Lucas and Carol Caudill stayed a couple of nights with the Browns. While in Tennessee, Linda and Carol spent one night with Rusty and Tori Akers.

Ella Akers had her seventh birthday party. Those at her party from Cowan were Barbara Banks, Marcia Roberts, Clayshan Kincer, Jaycee and Jackson, Carol Caudill and Linda Lucas.
