AEP, Kentucky Farm Bureau helps local firefighters …

The Kentucky Farm Bureau Association (photo above) this week awarded Letcher County’s volunteer fire departments $1,000 each to use however they deem necessary. Pictured, local Farm Bureau president Howard Stanfill (left) handed out checks to representatives of the departments. Left to right are: Stanfill, Letcher Fire Chief Gary Rogers, Letcher County Judge/Executive Terry Adams, Cumberland River Fire Chief Farley Lewis,

Mayking Fire Chief Tony Fugate, Sandlick Fire Chief Mike Amburgey, Colson Fire Chief Roy Parker, Kingscreek Fire Chief Bill Meade, Whitesburg Fire Chief Gary Mullins, Gordon Fire Chief Allen “Red” Cornett, Jenkins Fire Chief Rick Corbett, and KFB board members Shad Baker, Judy Collins, John Wright, Dennis Wayne Fleming, and Diane Watts. In photo above right, firefighters from all 10 Letcher County departments tried on new turnout gear purchased through a grant from the American Electric Power Foundation. The foundation gave the fire departments a total of $61,160 to buy the gear, which protects firefighters from heat and water. Each set costs about $1,400.
