After pitching only two years, LCC star lands scholarship at Union

Rachel Mae Spangler, a student at Letcher County Central High School, has signed a letter of intent to play softball with Union College. With her were her parents, Mark and Debbie Spangler; pitching coach Dennis Thacker; head coach Jay Perkins; assistant coach Larry Maggard; and athletic director Mike Melton.

Spangler has been pitching less than two years. This year she broke the school record of 134 strikeouts in a season along with other pitching records. She has 204 strikeouts this year and is ranked number one in the region and number five in the state.

Teammate Hannah Wampler is ranked among the top in the state for most stolen bases and was caught only twice. Grayson Collier, who is in the top 25 in the state for stolen bases, and Victoria Lumpkins have led the LCCHS team with 19 wins this season.
