I just read a report from our Headquarters Military Air Transport Services (MATS), the unit I served with for over 15 years overseas and stateside, about one of our planes that was flying over the ‘hump’ from India to China with supplies for our air crews that were fighting the Japanese in 1942. The plane went down with all aboard without a trace.
American hikers found the wreckage in the snowcovered mountains and brought the remains back recently. The crewmembers had been missing in action for 70 years. Each man will be buried with military honors in his home state.
During my 27-year military career, I lost many men that I became close to. I lost two Jenkins classmates in the Korean War, one of them worked for me at one time. I’ve lost count of all the wars I served through.
